Totally TMI...but I need help

Hey ladies.

FTM/EBF 7 week old baby girl

So, I got out of the shower just now and I noticed a little tiny bump on my left breast. So, naturally, I started to squeeze it. Some white stuff came out (just a little) and then I noticed a dark spot. I figured it is a very, very deep ingrown hair. Well, I couldn't get to it and I didn't want to keep picking at it and risking infection. So, what do I do? Should I just wait? Now that the bump is opened (because I squeezed it) is it going to get infected?

Thank you in advance!

Re: Totally TMI...but I need help

  • I used to get those kinds of bumps on my breast, I'm assuming it was on your areola, even before pregnancy. I would 'pop' them all the time because they bugged me and never had any infection from it.

  • its right on the edge of my areola. it hurts now.

so, you had a lot of ingrown hairs?

  • It's probably what's called Montgomery Glands.  You should not pop them.
  • I don't think that's what it is. do Montgomery glands have dark spots underneath them?

  • No mine never had an ingrown hair with it. Maybe mine was the Montgomery gland then
  • Montgomery's tubercles normally appear during pregnacy and are responsible for lubricating the areola while breast feeding. They appear as small bumps on the areola. Color can vary and fluid should come out of them. Do not continue to squeeze it as you could introduce bacteria into something that is currently as it should be. As always, I have not seen it and am going off of your description. Please seek medical advice if you are concerned or start to show signs of infection.
