Random question...

This might be a weird question, but what do you guys DO with your babies all day? Now that my daughter is almost 7 wks and awake most of the day, I feel like I'm running out of things do with her/keep her occupied.

I'm trying to minimize the amount of time she spends on her back, so I don't want to stick her in her swing, leave her on her play mat too much. We go for walks in the stroller every now and then, but that doesn't take up too much time, and she doesn't enjoy either of the baby carriers we have...

I go back to work in a couple weeks, so I'd love to hear what others do for some fresh new ideas!

Re: Random question...

  • We go for walks..i put her on her boppy while i do laundry and song to her (not very well i must add) she spends some time in her swing and we snuggle. Not a heck of a lot to do with a 6 week old except talk to her a lot.

  • She sits in her bouncy chair, mamaroo, swing as well as tummy time, a few naps and she listens to me talk a lot! I have two standing coffee dates every week with ladies who have newborns as well. I also plan at least two other random outings to either meet up with friends, have a friend over or visit dad at work. Surprisingly this has all seemed to work great every week! LO is 6 weeks. Because My weekends are generally busy with DH being home I plan nothing for Monday and usually stay in my pjs with LO and do laundry, clean and watch TV on the couch all day!
  • I have wondered this as well. Thanks for asking and responding!
  • I try to go some where a couple times a week. Whether it be to a bigger "city" (I live in rural Nebraska so the closest Walmart is 30 miles away) for something or just up the street to see my dad at work. Sometimes go to lunch with my mom. Otherwise we just hang out in the bouncer/swing while I do chores, take naps, and snuggle watching a movie or Netflix. It's been pretty cold to be taking many walks.
  • I try to go places a few times a week too. Usually it's just to my parents house. My mom doesn't work so she is home so we go there a few times a week. Sometimes I just hang out there and sometimes we go shopping or something. I usually time these visits on days when my husband works later or after I have been home for several days. My husband and I often go over to his parents house in the evenings or on weekends once a week (more if his sister is home visiting for the weekend). I dont tackle too many trips by myself with her because it's stressful when she cries out in public. I'm fortunate that my mom, MIL, and close friends are eager to visit us a lot so we have visitors to look forward to as well.
When it's just me and baby home...we cuddle on the couch while I watch tv, sing songs, and I try to get some things done around the house when she sleeps. I also try to work on my business (I sell Pampered Chef) when she is sleeping or from my phone when she is just dozing on me when Im trying to get her to sleep. There is a lot going on right now with the holidays and family visiting so we aren't bored. But I'm hoping by the time that dies down, she will be at the stage where she is awake more and interested in interacting and playing more. I plan to start ECFE classes in January with her! And I will be working two days a week in January too while my mom watches her.
