Opinions on K'Tan?

I already have an Ergo that I love. I'm looking to get something that's a little more light weight and easy to throw in the diaper bag. I'm on baby 3 and Ive never been a fan of the Ergo for the first few months (both babies hated the newborn insert) and rolling up a blanket under their butt is a pain in the butt lol. Has anyone used the "breeze" k'tan (made with mesh)? Would it be worth the extra money for summer use? Or would the cotton one be breathable enough?

I clicked on this fully expecting a question about some type of spray tan brand, haha! FTM here, no idea what a k'tan is, so....*quietly retreats to corner*. Curious to hear what all the experienced moms think of babywearing wraps/carriers.
I thought the exact same thing. I thought this was going to be about opinions on getting a spray tan while pregnant. I know there is a thread a few down about babywearing - they may have had some opinions on this brand there?
  • I thought about posting there but I didn't want to hijack.
  • I used one with DS when he was little and loved it!  Mine wasn't a breeze but he was a fall baby.
DS 9/2/13 was a BFP from an IUI!
Triplets due 6/29/16 also from an IUI!

  • I wasn't a fan of the k'tan, I felt like it got stretched out and didn't feel tight enough. My first was a February baby so I went with a moby but this time around I think I'll be going with a solly or happy baby wrap since they're thinner and more breathable for the newborn stage. Also a single layer linen ring sling is a great option for a newborn as well.
  • I got an awesome carrier for the first few months that I'm so excited to use. It seems a little sturdier than a k'tan and is full coverage enough to wear around without a shirt underneath so you can do skin-to-skin with the new baby. It's called a Nesting Days carrier. It's only for small babies but realistically so is the k'tan...but by the time baby grows out of it you should be able to use the Ergo more comfortably.

Also I'll second what PP said about the ring sling. Great option for newborns and is still useful up to toddler stage.

I've never head of the carrier, just looked it up, looks awesome! I have the moby, I get lost in all the material, was thinking of making my own k'tan out of all the material. Also have the ergo, but I don't love for newborns, and full disclosure I have the hardest time snapping the top buckle in the back, I'm little, it's a full comedy skit:)

  • I have a k'tan (not the mesh one, though) from my first, and I loved it when he was tiny. I mostly used my Beco when he got a little bigger. I thought the k'tan looked a lot easier and less complicated than the Mobi wrap!! I loved it, especially for around the house. I usually only had on a nursing tank with it, so I didn't find it was too warm, even though it was late summer.

  • I love the idea of a ring sling, but the long flowing extra piece that hangs down would be annoying to me. Can it be tucked in? Every picture has that darn tail...and I just feel like it's super girly and I'm not girly lol.

I wish I had a store that would let me play with a k'tan, but the nearest is two hours away.

Moby seems great, but I'm super uncoordinated and awkward.

I liked it but MUCH preferred the Solly Baby wrap. Solly and Ergo were my go-tos. The Solly is great because it's about the size of 3 diapers when it's rolled up so you can toss it in your purse and always have it with you. I used it until my LO was a year old. He loved it, I loved it, plus it's adorable. Win win win.

I hate the long flowing extra piece. Most ring slings come in different sizes, just grab a S or XS if you don't want a lot of tail. I have a large one and I HATE it, I'm just going to hem off the excess if I ever have the time or energy. If your tail isn't a ridiculous length you can totally wrap it around the rings, tuck it back under the fabric somewhere, etc. Moby is great but there's a learning curve and there are so many layers of heavy fabric once it's wrapped that it is crazy hot under there.

You can wrap the tail around the rings so it isn't hanging down. Here's an example. Do you have a local baby wearing chapter? I would check out Facebook and see.
  • I loved my k'tan with my daughter! Had to watch a few you tube videos to figure it out but afterwards it was awesome!

I used a K'Tan when the twins were babies. I used to carry one and put the other and kid #1 in the double stroller. I liked it because it was easy to use, but agree that it didn't feel secure enough to me. The other thing I didn't like was that my hubby couldn't use it-they come in specific sizes (not sure if that's a common thing with wraps). I'm going to try it again but if it's not working, I'm going to borrow my friend's Moby.

Edited because spelling is hard tonight.

  • @theatremandy most wraps and carriers, even when they have a "size", are really not specific to a certain body size like a k'tan. I forgot about that downside. Definitely not an issue with the Moby which is like a gazillion yards long.
  • I had a moby with my daughter , but got the k'tan for my sons and loved it!!! I got so many compliments while wearing it saying how comfy baby looked :) I used to wrap a muslin blanket around as well for added security, but really just because I wanted to have one with me, but not carry it.
My sons were born in April and May and I had no issues of being too hot in it.
I also got a beach front baby wrap, that was mesh and basically tied like a moby, that was great for the pool and if we were going on a long walk in the heat I would use that over the k'tan.

What's the difference? I hadn't heard of them before, but looked it up and they look just like a k'tan and/or moby?

The K'tan is not actually a "wrap", so it's not adjustable. It didn't feel as secure as the Solly wrap. Also, it's bulkier than the Solly. The Moby and the Solly are the same idea but the Moby is 10x as much fabric so it would be hard to just throw in your purse. It is seriously SO HUGE. The Solly is ultra stretchy and lightweight so it's comfortable for summer wear and you can make it fit perfectly. Plus it comes in adorable patterns and colors (the stripe is my favorite). Highly recommend.
