How do you relax?

Before getting KU I used to LOVE a weekly hot bubble bath, face mask, the occasional glass of wine, and weekly sushi lunch. Obviously hot baths are out. Wine is out. Sushi is mostly out (okay, I have had a couple cooked rolls since my BFP) and I feel like safe/ not safe skin products is a tricky road to navigate. What have you ladies done to relax while pregnant? I'm in need of some good ideas...

Re: How do you relax?

  • During my first pregnancy H would give me foot rubs at least once a week. Didn't get any during the second and doubt I'll get any this time but it was great while it lasted :)

  • I'll admit it is tough these days to relax, but after DS falls asleep H and I play this online strategy game together for awhile. Lol its a bit nerdy but it's fun to chill and work together with no stress before bed :-)
  • @TaylorK89 I'm in the same boat as you - those are all of my normal relaxation techniques. Now its mostly curling up with a good book and my dog or binge watching some of my favorite shows. Doesn't do the same trick as a bubble bath and a glass (or three) of vino.
  • I nap. Daily. Unfortunately, I also like TV. I also read picture books to DD and find it relaxing.

  • @fishwife799 once a week??? Dang! I think DH has given me 2 so far (which is better than none, I guess)

@summerfunxo I used to be really into MMOs, but we currently don't have a PC and hubby uses the only TV/game console for Xbox like 80% of the time (that's a whole other thread though!)

I do enjoy me some naps and Netflix though!

  • Reading has really helped me. My new "treat yo self" is breakfast at the local diner with a good book for an hour. The waitresses all know me so they don't bother me too much. It's a nice escape.
  • I'm a huge fan of a nightly bubble bath to relax. Asked my doctor at 6 weeks and she gave me the okay to keep up with my ritual. Just cannot be too hot. I've been taking baths almost nightly and all is well (9 weeks).
  • As long as it doesn't raid your body temperature you can keep up the baths.

I also like reading, doing my nails, baking or sipping a warm drink

  • I still do baths. Warm baths are fine, as long as you don't keep adding hot water and let the bath cool naturally. I never was a fan of hot baths, though. My husband loves hot baths and refuses to take warm baths. He sure is happy he knocked me up so he can enjoy his hot baths again, guys have it so easy.
  • I have had a rough two weeks so I'm heading to the spa tomorrow for an hour long massage.

I don't get as much relaxation time now with a 3 year old, but family movie night or getting takeout (I still do sushi. All of it ;)) and lounging and watching TV with DH after the kids bedtime.
  • I got a mani/pedi yesterday which was awesome (although not an every day thing).

Reading, going for a walk and watching TV are all good every day things I do to relax :)

  • I took warm baths with my DS and have during this pregnancy as well. My midwife said it was fine, just if I started feeling hot then to get out. I'm one who likes BOILING water, and obviously had to tone that down, but warm baths were still very nice in the third tri and it made my son super active which was fun to watch. It also helped relieve my gas (gross, I know)

  • I still take warm baths just not really hot. Also I lay with a heating pad around my neck shoulders before I fall asleep. And also I let myself eat a lot of ice cream since I can't drink I feel like I deserve it☺️

  • I like reading and before I started feeling like crap, running.

  • I read a lot, but that's nothing new. I wouldn't mind going to the movies, but getting a sitter can be hard.

(I know this is nothing to brag about, but I haven't bothered avoiding many foods except alcohol and too much caffiene.)

  • Baths are fine. My doc said as long as it's not a continually heated tub (like a hot tub) it's fine, as the water cools quite rapidly and never really gets a chance to crank up body temperature.

Search Pinterest for homemade face masks! As long as you're not somehow getting your hands on straight Retinol, whatever you make will be fine. You could do an exfoliating sugar rub, an egg-based facial, etc.

Maybe splurge on a massage if you really need something special? Or just enlist your partner or a friend.

Also it can be fun to mix yourself a fancy virgin "cocktail" and just kick back with Netflix.

  • When I can, I read or knit or sew. I'm about 3/4th done with a baby blanket. I started it the day after I found out. If my pregnancy wasn't viable, I would have just finished it and donated it to the abused women's center. I was really excited to start something.
  • Mindless TV and celebrity gossip magazines!
  • @jennk0118 I used to knit with my grandmother! I love that idea! Thanks!!!
  • I listen to an Andrew Johnson app lol. He has a ton, it's almost like hypnotizing yourself to be relaxed- actually helped me quit smoking too which is how I found it! He's a Scottish guy with a super soothing voice.
  • I did end up taking a bath the other night- nothing "hot", but plenty warm to relax. I will have to look into making my own face masks... And mocktails are another great idea. Tons of great ideas in here. Thank you ladies!
  • I was having a lot of headaches and on impulse picked up this aromatherapy neck wrap you can heat or chill. It has peppermint, eucalyptus, and lavender and it's incredible! The good thing is the herbal smells also calm my nausea. Double win! It's at Origins for $32 if anyone is interested in treating themselves. So glad I did!
