Joint pain @ 36 weeks?

My joints ache, especially my hips (uncomfortable to walk or lie on my side). I'm a FTM, and I cannot find if this is normal aches and pains while LO is starting to drop. Stretching has gotten difficult and soaking helps.
My Drs appointment isn't until Wednesday afternoon so I can't ask until then, and this isn't bad enough to call. Google is no help.
Normal?

Re: Joint pain @ 36 weeks?

  • Thanks ladies, enjoy your weekend!
  • Ooh, the hip pain is the worse. I'm so sorry you're having to go through this.  I've had it for several weeks right now and it's miserable. Have you looked for some easy hip opener stretches online? Also, a simple cayenne pepper salve really really helps me (olive oil, beeswax, ground cayenne) and it was super easy to make. I got the OK from my doc to take Tylenol if it becomes severe.
  • I'd say your body is starting to release more relaxin. Preparing the ligaments in your hips and pelvis to loosen and get ready for birth. I've had it since about 23 weeks and it hurts like a bitch.

Warm baths and a heat pack unfortunately. Sleep with a pillow between your knees. And just to take it easy.

Hope it gets better and you get some relief.
  • I'm with @stickybun14, I believe its the relaxin. My hips and feet have been sore since 32 weeks my hands have gotten tired easily and my thumbs hurt since about 34 weeks. Oddly, sitting on an exercise ball has helped my hip. Baths with espom salt have helped too.
  • I would think it is just the relaxin loosening your joints. This can create pressure and pain. My hips have been hurting from sleeping on my side.
  • I am sorry you are going through that pain. I have been having hip pain since 28 weeks because of the relaxin. My doctor approved tylenol and epsom salt soaks to help. I also found a lot of relief from weekly Chiropractic visits, which I would highly recommend if you can find one knowledgeable in prenatal care.
