Question: Sippy cups, please help a momma out!

All you 2nd, 3rd, 10th time Mommas.... I've been pretty lax about weaning my DS off the bottle, insert eye roll, I know. He's 17 months, we use Dr. brown bottles, 2 a day for milk, am and pm. He'll drink water day and night out of any Sippy cup, but if I put milk in there, he's less then interested. My dr says I NEED to get rid of the bottle. I know I should just take all bottles away and he'll figure it out, but he's on the lower end with weight, plus I just like him to have all the nutrition that milk has. Anyone have my problems? Anyone use dr. Browns and then switch? Any recommendations will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks @huskerfamily, that's the one soft nipple Sippy I've tried. Wondering if a straw cup is the way to go, not that he's mastered the straw;)

We used that transitional one as well. Same as @huskerfamily.

A good, recommended straw sippy would have to be the ones with the weighted straws:

DD was never interested in sippy cups. We jumped straight to the Munchkin straw cups. She still uses them at 2.5 and I love them bc they don't spill!

My pediatrician recommends only serving milk with meals. Maybe just give him a cup and a good bib and call it a day? DS is 17 months and prefers to drink milk out of a cereal bowl. Kids that have food readily available and offered to them rarely starve so I wouldn't stress too much over it.

DS used to love the Munchkin 360 cup. Now he prefers my camelback. Santa will probably bring him one of his own for Christmas

The great sippy cup search! This was a rough one for my oldest. She preferred her drinks from the boob and nowhere else. The only cup I was really ever able to get her to drink out if was this one. My son on the other hand will drink out of anything. He has one like her but also has an assortment of others. His favorite probably being hid Tomee Tipee.

DD drinks just fine out of most cups but still wants her bedtime milk in a bottle.

Oh man you guys...this thread is giving me motivation to chuck my baby's pacifier. Thankfully, I threw away all of his bottles about a week ago when he turned 12 months. He didn't seem to mind that much...but geez, the pacifier is a whole other ball game.

My youngest gets speech therapy. The therapists highly recommend going straight to straw sippy cups. I love the OXO brand. Works great for both of my kiddos, even the youngest with low muscle tone.

My son was on Dr. Brown's and he did really well with the Nuk transitioning sippy cups. They has such a wide variety that you may have to try a few different ones until you figure out what he likes. They start off with a wider rubber nipple, transition into more of a suctioning rubber straw, and eventually turn to hard plastic. You can also just try a simply small tumbler to see if he maybe wants to skip over bottles altogether. Mine loves his "big boy cups!"

Can I piggyback on this? I'm trying to switch my DD to whole milk. She will drink formula/milk mix in the bottle (before bed and once or so before a nap during the day). She will not really drink just whole milk out of her sippy. Not her straw sippy, not a soft spout, not a hard spout. How can I get her to take to milk? She's 12 months old and still on the bottle. Pedi wanted he bottle gone by 12 months.

She also still wakes up for a night for a night feeding too.

Did you try increasing the milk by an ounce each day/decreasing formula, we did that over the course of a week and my DS was fully switched! Thanks for all the suggestions ladies, I ordered the munchkin weighted straws, thanks @nicknshan, still waiting for them, fingers crossed!

We are in her bottle, but not sippy. The ped said to never put formula in the sippy. Maybe I should get her fully on milk in a bottle and then tackle in a sippy?

Our 16 month old loves the Munchkin cups with the weighted straw and the magic cup also. The straw cup does leak milk however, for some reason it comes up the straw and it only happens with milk.
