Witching hour(s)

My 10 week old gets put down for bed at 830 after a bottle. She sleeps for about 30 to 45 minutes then wakes up and tired cries until about 11 o'clock. I've looked up info about witching hours and was wondering if anyone else is experiencing this?! We rock her, walk with her, white noise machine but nothing seems to work until her body let's go. It's mentally and physically exhausting for both her and me!

Re: Witching hour(s)

  • Our witching hour is 7-9pm! Even when he's just eaten, is being rocked, etc etc....it's just rough during that time!
  • Loading the player...
  • Have you tried just putting her down later?
  • Ours is early evening. Usually around 6-8 pm
  • My almost 12-week-old usually goes to bed between 8:30-9:30 and is asleep for the night, but the last two nights he's woken up an hour after being put down and it's impossible to get him back to sleep unless I nurse him to sleep again. I'm hoping it's just a phase because he's been fine up until this point!
  • Same here. I usually let him comfort nurse. He loves the bath so we try to stay in there as long as possible. Usually I nurse him to sleep around 9:30 and then he sleeps until 5:30.
  • The only thing that worked for us was comfort nursing
  • Our witching hours are 4-7pm, right during homework/dinner prep/dinner time. Same timeframe as with my older three boys. It lasted through kindergarten.

  • Ours were also right before dinner. 3-6 ish. I just kept trying to see whatever worked. He calmed down when I put him in the bath but what really worked was putting him in the ergo and going for a walk outside. He conked out after awhile. I'd have to kind of hold him tight while he was in the carrier if he was trying to flail around ha. Then I'd carefully sit down in the recliner and unhook the ergo and just hold him until he got a solid nap in. He was his normal happy self when he woke up!
  • 7-9 are ours, but recently I started just stripping him down to his diaper. Works like a charm.
  • Maybe still hungry? Try more in bottle.

  • Up until 6/7 weeks my daughter did it from about 6/7 at night til about 10 sometimes later nothing would settle her but now she's 10 weeks and for the past 3 weeks she's been asleep by 8-9:30 with no crying like before o think it's happened twice now but it certainly doesn't go on for as long x
  • Yes, we have this too around 8:00 pm! I usually end up nursing him to sleep. I know that sets up a bad habit but he can sleep on his own during the day and I think the cuddles at night won't hurt.

  • Agree with PP, I wear DS during his around 5:30 and barely even notice anymore. He stays pretty content in my carrier.
