Well, after yesterdays UO drama, almost scared to start this thread, but what the hell. I could use some popcorn today!

My confession- I decided while I was peeing today that I don't want to change my last name. Why? Because its a pain in the ass. I don't want to go to the SS office, I don't want to go to the DMV. I know that I can mail in my application, but I don't feel comfortable in mailing all my original documents and drivers license. So I am telling DH I am just going to have his last name in spirit. I really wanted us to have a "family name" but why should I spend time and money changing licenses, passports and everything else?

Changing my last name was a huge pain. They had me running all over the place and I'm still dealing with it a year and a half later. Places that didn't change my name in their files when I asked them to, having to use my old name at the doctors because my name was never changed on my last insurance policy, changing my insurance to my new name and then still having issues at the doctors. It's been a huge ordeal. Looking back, I might not have made the same decision had I know what a hassle it was going to be!

Yep. Definitely a pain. I changed a lot of things over the first year, but I still have a few accounts that I haven't changed over 5 years later because they're not very important and required SO MUCH documentation.

This! Changing your name is such a process. I waited 2 hours at the social security office. When I got to the window, it took less than 5 minutes. I about cried. Took about an hour at the dmv. I had to go to a physical bank to change the name on my account with my marriage license and my entire life story. I had to call all my credit card companies and wait for new cards - some accounts I honestly still haven't done 3, almost 4 years later bc I never use them. Change all of my insurance policies. And student loans. Those were the worst. Then when we bought our house, somehow it was SOOO confusing to them that accounts were opened in one name then changed to another... Bc no one ever changes names when they get married.

Honestly DH said I didn't have to do it and couldn't care less. Sometimes I wish I hadn't done it bc it literally took me months, but I figure now it's whatever bc I already did it.

I'll be married 7 years in January. This year is the first year my debit card has my married name.

@LemmyRN all of those have literally happened (ok, it wasn't a tree, but a vase of flowers that she knocked onto the floor inches from my son) except of course the pool one. What a-hole parent watches as their brat tries to throw a cat in the pool?!

I wish it was playful, but she really goes for blood. She used to swat playfully with no claws, but recently has been very aggressive. We did try the nail caps, but I lost a pint putting them on and they didn't stay on.
