1st Trimester

Anyone else getting big at 6 weeks?

I'm having a hard time concealing what I believe to be bloat... it makes me look like I'm so far along already! I've even caught people looking at my stomach assessing whether or not there's something new growing there. Any thoughts on how to conceal at work or around people you aren't ready to tell yet? Is anyone else feeling like they look like they're 12 weeks already?!

Re: Anyone else getting big at 6 weeks?

  • I am 6 weeks and I haven't felt that way. Have you had any bowel movements recently? I ask because you might want to talk to your doctor to find ways to help move it along.

As for myself, my stomach has gone down because I'm still exercising and eating healthy. Days where I have issues using the bathroom are days where I get a tiny bit of bulge but nothing too bad that lasts through the night.

  • OMG! I was literally just about to post this because I got stopped by a complete stranger in the hallway at work right now asking if i'm pregnant! I'm 6wks and a STM ... I know its bloat but i'm stumped on how to hide it as nearly all of my clothes are too tight already and I don't want to shop until I have a REAL bump. Chugging water as we speak... argh.

  • Yup it's bloat. It'll go away eventually. Looser clothing can help hide, drink extra water, fiber, and try light exercise.

  • i'm almost 12 weeks now and I've been gaining weight since before I even got a positive pregnancy test...so yes. My "fat" clothes are already too tight. So excited to shop for maternity clothes :/
  • I'll be 11 weeks tomorrow and I don't have a bump yet but I'm super bloated. My jeans don't fit anymore so I think I'm going to buy a pair of maternity jeans just for Thanksgiving lol.
  • Loose clothing plus scarves are the killer combo for concealing. The scarf distracts!

Bloat is the worst. I'm still dealing with some but it has gotten better! I'm 12 weeks now so I'm starting to notice a little bit more than just bloat...nothing crazy but definitely some changes going on! My jeans are tight in the waist but still fit everywhere else thank god! I have big hips/thighs/butt to begin with. Like I've been getting "you've got child bearing hips!" Since I was 13! 13 years old! So I'm hoping they don't "spread"anymore!
  • I am 7+3 and yes, I know it's just bloat but holy cow I already feel like I'm showing. Already using my belly band! Wondering when I will have to break down and get some maternity clothes!
  • Hey hun, u do bloat a bit, water retention is common, and feet sweeling, all hormones are running high, absolutely nothing to worry about... Keep in mind that swollen feet can mean other things, so see ur doctor if ur shoes dont fit anymore. Xxx
  • I'm 6 wks and although I have not gained any wait but my belly has been rather bloated. I bought a belly band as well. I don't care if it seems early. I can't stand when clothes pinch. I need comfort. That's all that matters.
  • I have lost 5 pounds since finding out two weeks ago that I'm pregnant (not trying to just a byproduct of sickness). I'm 6w3d and can't button my jeans even with the weight loss! Bloat is for real!!

37 weeks today and lurking. :) Yup. It's bloat and YES you CAN get very big with it. Leggings and tunics are your friend. Actually, look, for the sake of comfort, get into maternity or seamless leggings as early as you can. (Not jeans.. jeans won't fit right until you're big enough to fill the panel out and they'll sag) Because that damn bloating will come and go all day long and there is nothing worse than wearing pants that cut into your midsection every time your body decides to gas up.

@ecorker Same. I lost a fair bit of overall body weight in my first two trimesters/first trimester and a half. But that bloat just kept coming. I never "popped" like so many women describe.. just kind of went from having a low, puffy belly to having a slightly smaller, harder, high up belly that kept getting bigger from then on in. It was weird.
  • Definitely bloat, try silky flowing shirts and avoid clingy cotton. I'm the same way, I eat healthy and always have - no diet changes except no drinking alcohol and I'm already up 8 lbs at 8 weeks. With my first I gained 10 lbs by 8 weeks, it was insane but it plateaued after the first trimester and I only gained 30lbs (my OB said weight gain in trimeter one is common if you're thin). My biggest issue was water retention, you could literally see dents in my ankles from my shoes at 18 weeks last time! On the plus side I lost all the weight 3 weeks after birth and with breastfeeding I was eating like a teenaged boy so it must have been mostly water weight. Good luck and try not to eat salty foods!
  • Yep, I did. Drinking lots of water is the way to go. And stretchy pants.
  • Yes! It will go away. I started to get that at 4 weeks. But the bloat went down. Of course, I'm 11w2d now and I look almost 20 weeks pregnant with my 2nd! Ugh, I don't think you'll be so unlucky.
