I am getting ready to start taking letrozole in the next week, and I'm not sure if we should do an IUI Or try to conceive at home.
We have a DS who just turned 3
And we had a miscarriage at 9.5 weeks last summer so I know we can get pregnant! I just don't ovulate!!

We are thinking of trying at home a month or two then if it doesn't work we will try IUI

I need advice please!!

Re: PCOS HELP

  • Hi there. I just finished letrozole. We did 5 rounds of clomid and trying at home with no success. This is my first round on letrozole and we are trying IUI. Tomorrow will be CD10 and I'll find out how my follicles are doing.

I've heard of lots of people who have just done letrozole and conceived.

I also have a mild case of Pcos and have never ovulated. I've decided to do IUI knowing it gives me a slightly greater chance of conceiving....that's if the femara has done it's job!

  • If it is a cost issue with the IUI, I don't think it hurts to try TI for a month. Clearly you have been able to get pregnant in the past :)

Even with TI your RE should be able to give you medications like estrace (before ovulation) and progesterone (after ovulation) to help support a nice thick squishy lining for implantion and to help prevent MC.

However if the cost is all the same I say do the IUI and get the slightly higher outcome rate.
For me TI cycles cost like less than $150 with medications and monitoring but this IUI I just did was nearly $1000. $600 for the IUI and about $400 in meds...
  • Thanks ladies! We were waiting to get day 3 lab results back & mine are ready! dh should be ready on Monday so i will start my cycle then! It's so exciting to finally be able to start this process! It's a lot of work getting everything started! As you all know!

    My treatment plan is
    Letrozole cycle day 3-7
    Follicle monitoring day 11-12
    Ovidrel trigger
    Prometrium 4 days after ovidrel

    Baby dust to you all!!

  • Hi! I have PCOS and did two letrozol IUIs, (neither worked impart due to MFI). The main reason our re told us to do IUI over TI was Bc letrozol stops production of fertile CM, preventing the semen from getting to the Fallopian tube. (I had zero cm on this med so he was correct that it wouldn't have worked!) I suggest checking with your re about that issue and having a plan prior to choosing ti. Otherwise you might be wasting a medicated cycle.
