Hello!
I just had my first CD3 bloodwork and ultrasound. My AFC is 9, the technician said it was a good number, but after reading on that it doesn't seem that great, especially at 28 years old!
I'm not sure to understand how this affect my fertility though. I'm really regular and ovulate each month. Can this be the cause of my infertility? Everything that I read about low AFC says that it reduce IVF chances, but I didn't find anything about the chances without treatment.
Maybe it's a stupid question, but if I ovulate each month, why does the number of follicle matters?
Thanks for you help!!
Re: Question about low AFC!!
There are several factors that kind of paint a total picture for fertility and AFC is only one of them. Also, 9 is not a bad number at all and more can appear in a few days as well. At your age, having a high number of follicles isn't as important as it is for older women, because most or all of your eggs are probably good. As we reach our late 30's and early 40's more and more of them have chromosomal anomalies and won't fertilize... which is why we need more of them in play to get pregnant.
Your issue is the opposite, you don't want a huge number of eggs in play because it raises your chances of multiples.
