Weight gain problems?

Hi!
I just have a question for moms who have maybe encountered this issue before!

So i guess this whole time ive gained only 1 pound. Ill be 20 weeks on sunday and will find out the sex tomorrow.

Everytime i go into the doctors im told i need to start gaining weight. I eat just fine on most days.

The doctor says the baby is healthy on each visit. Im kinda worried theyll find something wrong from me not gaining weight tomorrow.

Is there any tips or insight anyone can throw my way?

This is my first pregnancy.

  • :/ i dont really track calories. I never have because i dont know how to. I just when im hungry and everytime im told im fine and healthy and baby is fine.
  • Ask for a referral to a nutritionist and lurk the boards. There's a very good chance your questions have already been answered.
  • You don't have to track calories, although that would be the most accurate way to check.  Try adding in some of the higher-calorie options to your normal meals, or adding in an additional snack or two. Drink a glass of juice or milk instead of a glass of water once a day. You could always try adding in a nutritional shake, but personally I prefer to get my calories from actual food.

It's good that baby is measuring appropriately, but if your doctor is telling you to gain weight, you should definitely try to do so.

  • Try eating more healthy fats, like PP mentioned. Avocados, nuts, swap skim milk for whole milk and drink at least a glass a day. Eat some hearty soups with potatoes, snack on string cheese, eat peanut butter on things like celery, crackers, or apples (or a good old pb&j sandwich) don't eat anything labeled fat free (not healthy anyway). I dont know how you eat now, or how much? You might just need to eat more during the day.
  • I cant actually eat nuts which sucks because they are really good and if i could id take them everywhere!
I eat 3 meals and snack. Its normal food. Nothing super fancy. Just pastas, chicken with mashed potatoes and vegitables. I also drink 2% but a few days ago decided when its gone ill be drinking whole.
I weighed myself last night and the scale said like 3 pounds heavier. Maybe it was just atthat time but we will see today!

And by the way i am trying to gain weight!! Im just not trying..

I literally gained zero weight until 21 weeks. I wasn't concerned about it though, and Dr is telling me to be careful about weight gain with my family history.

I can parrot what everyone is saying about eating more calories, full fat dairy etc. Add more carbs to each meal, as well as a green vegetable for fiber. (At 20 weeks LO is developing taste buds so whatever you're eating they're already starting to taste, so I'm eating as many vegetables as possible now, and fruit, even though I hate fruit.)

Just for my curiosity's sake, can you list a general meal plan for the day for yourself? I'm not a nutritionist, just curious.
  • Maybe you just have a high metabolism? I would think as long as you are eating enough healthy calories, you should be fine. Once the baby starts packing on weight, you'll see the scale move. I wouldn't stress over it, just keep eating healthy! You could throw some ice cream in there for good measure. ;)
  • I dont have a general meal plan. We dont really have a lot of choices with our money right now which sucks but as long as im eating its better than not.
I make a lot of chicken, baked and mostly i have sides of veggies. I aim to eat fruit in the morning with cerial.
Other food i make are pasta dishes like spaghetti or just something simple.
  • Yeah i do have a high metabolism. We had our anatomy scan the yesterday and the baby is perfectly find and checks out in everything. I am fine too apart from she wants me to take more iron but other than that everything us perfectly fine. I am not worrying as much any more about it after having the indepth anatomy scan and seeing that what can be seen right now, everything is doing well.
  • I really wouldn't worry about it.
