HCG levels

My HCG levels went from 6400 on Saturday afternoon to 10854 on Tuesday afternoon.

I just got the results, so I haven't gotten a chance to speak to my doctor. Is that an ok number at 5 weeks?

I thought it was suppose to double every 48 hours. This was a 72 hr difference. I was expecting to see numbers in the 18000.

Re: HCG levels

  • It's supposed to doubled every 48-72 hours but those are still good numbers

  • As long as it rises consistently, I don't think it's an issue. Not all women's hormones double within 48-72 hours. Mine didn't, and I'm currently having a healthy pregnancy. I do, however, have a benign pituitary tumor that affects my hormones. I wouldn't be overly concerned if I were you.

  • Agreed with previous posters, the every 48 hrs rule is just an average.. its different for everyone
  • I would like some advice on my story. Wow, this has been such a roller coaster. I had a miscarriage in December last year at 5 weeks. I have had 2 unsuccessful Inseminations since then and my last insemination was on 28 August 15. I did a home pregnancy test on day 14 post ovulation and I got a positive result, faint but positive. I tested again the next day and it was the same. I started to get a little bit crampy on Monday which resulted in spotting and then I bled quite heavily on Tuesday and had bloods done and my HCG was 24 and progesterone was 3 so I assumed I was having a miscarriage. The bleeding continued on Wednesday but not as heavy and then on Thursday I only had brown spotting and Friday it has completely gone. So here is the spin.. We had a blood test yesterday (fri) to make sure my levels were going down and I got a call from the Nurse and my levels had gone up! HCG 173 and progesterone 15.5. I would be 5 weeks post last menstrual period.. And of course these numbers are low also associated with bleeding does not look good. My specialist was pretty impressed and isn't giving up hope yet. He advised that my levels have done what they need to do by more then doubling in 48 hours and even though it has been a slow start it might be ok. We go in for a blood test on Monday and if the levels are still going up we should be able to have a 6 week scan on Friday, which will confirm if there is a baby or blighted ovum. I am really hoping it Isn't ectopic. Any advice? I would really like to hear success stories of a similar nature resulting in healthy children :-)
  • According to WEB MD and many other sites, hcg levels are supposed to double every 48-72 hrs in the first 2-4 weeks (below 1200) Once levels are at 1200-6000 levels slow down can double every 72-96 hrs. Once levels are over 6000, levels can take up to four days to double.

This in mind, your numbers seem great to me and right on track.
