Waxers or Possible Waxers

My stomach is starting to make it a bit harder for me to landscape my goods. I can't stand for things to be out of control down there (when I'm of my right mind) and am thinking about waxing. I've never done it. Anyone thinking about doing it or do it already??

I waxed pre pregnancy with DS, during pregnancy and post. So, please ignore Google (which will tell you that it'll be more painful because of hormones) and believe me when I say that waxing is a bit unpleasant if you're not used to it but no more so based on pregnancy. It's like 30 min tops. Remember to breath and you'll feel sassy after!

  • I waxed my legs once and it was horrible, painful and unnecessary.  I vowed never again.  But that being said...I am also concerned with how I'll keep my lady biz under control when I can't see past my stomach.
  • @lionstigersbears I get my eyebrows waxed (I know not the same necessarily) and was wondering though with the thin skin around your eyes is it the same type of pain??

  • I've been getting waxed for 11 years and will continue to do so throughout pregnancy. It hurts a little. You just gotta know that going into it. I think it is way worth it and I do it every 6 weeks.
  • Totally a matter of pain tolerance. I waxed almost up to birth with my first and it was no big deal other than the initial and slight pain. A little awkward, but hey. Better than a bush on the delivery table. Just my personal opinion.

  • I've waxed forever and did it all through my last pregnancy. I actually went and my labor started that night, which was great timing and couldn't have planned it better. I don't find it painful, more uncomfortable at times. It's also more challenging the bigger the bump gets (depending on what/how much you're getting waxed) but not impossible. Just remember before they rip it off to take a deep breath and exhale after the wax is ripped off. I find it helps minimize it, but everyone is different. Good luck!
  • What are we talking about here, a full on Brazilian wax? a bikini wax? or just shaping the bush?

I may be thinking about a full Brazilian. Butt hair is so gross to me haha

  • @doozer1345 I was thinking the exact same thing UNTIL my best friend just had it done on Monday for the first time (she's not preg). She told me it was the most awful thing ever! This is a girl who's covered in tattoos and has a pretty good pain tolerance.

I know that the first time is always the worst and it will probably get better after a few times.. but I just don't know if i can do it
  • First time was pretty rough, every subsequent time was easier. At this point it's almost soothing. I know that might sound hard to believe, but it's true. I HATE having bristly hair (anywhere! I hate it all over!) and so getting it ripped off is just incredibly calming.

I do full Brazilians and plan to keep going throughout this pregnancy. My waxing lady was actually the first person to spot that I'd gotten knocked up who didn't know about it beforehand.

  • Brazilians hurt, but if you take some Tylenol before it helps. I think if you've gotten a tattoo it can't hurt more than that! And it does get better with each subsequent one.

During pregnancy, I trim super close and shave the bikini line. It's cheaper and I end up with less ingrowns.
  • I've gotten professional waxes before, but they're expensive. Usually I just use the Sally Hansen waxing strips. I did it throughout my last pregnancy and plan to this time as well. It just burns a bit.
  • I got a Brazilian a few years ago and the gal ripped my labia. Never again. I shaved last pregnancy up to delivery, takes a little bit longer to do it without being able to see around the bump, but it's doable.

    Butt hair! Hah! Seriously though.

  • I would never ever get waxed down there unless it was hard wax. NEVER soft wax. Hard wax hardens like candle wax and then they peel it off. It's much more gentle than soft wax, and better for the skin. I've only ever seen it offered at European Wax Center. That being said, it still hurts a LOT. Especially when they get the inside bits of your labia.

Honestly yeah kind of, just in bigger areas more times. I always ask them to go as quickly as possible and then it's just over. It's key to have someone who is good do it, how they have you pull your skin and such makes a big difference so read reviews! You can always requesta Brazilian but not quite as close in on your lady bits if you're concerned. I find the most painful to be the "landing strip" area. Anyway, my point really comes back to the fact that pain is very much connected to perception and expectations so if you want to wax just do it, you will survive.

  • I have waxed on and off previously and I totally plan to wax when that time comes! No hassle and it lasts longer, why not?
  • I've been getting it done for years. My lady told me, if you've been waxing before you're pregnant then mostly it doesn't hurt any extra. I was personally fine. But if you're doing it for the first time and you're pregnant it's likely to be a lot more uncomfortable. Always worth giving it a try. What's a little pain...consider it preparation for child birth!!!
  • I think I'm just going to trim and shave the bikini line. I don't want to spend the money on waxing. I'd rather keep it super short.

I have to laugh at this. When I ended up with a serious infected hair because I couldn't see anymore to shave, I gave up. I totally rocked the bush during labor and delivery. Paying someone to wax never crossed my mind. We tend to only buy the necessities as we live on an extremely tight budget and that wasn't a necessity to me.

  • I used to think waxing was painful until I moved and tried a new waxing place. All that time, I thought it was supposed to be a long and miserable process, but now I know it's all about the waxer and the wax they use. I find the least painful wax thus far is the wax that actually dries quickly once they apply and the tear the wax itself it right off without using paper strips.

Here's a fun fact: I spent thousands on laser hair removal a couple of years ago for my bikini area. I knew before going into it that it doesn't last forever and your hair will eventually grow back down the road. Unfortunately, down the road for me meant as soon as my pregnancy hormones kicked in. That was a short lived luxury.
  • I make my own sugar wax at home and have a wax party by myself. I get scared of cleanliness when getting waxed in public and would rather just do it myself. Plus, who doesn't have water, sugar, and some lemon at home?!
  • @KyllieThomson if you don't mind me asking how long do you go between waxing?

  • Go for a wax! I've been going forever. It really doesn't hurt that much at all, and I've been since I'm pregnant and don't find it hurts any more than usual. I take a warm bath before my appointments, and make sure whatever hair you have is super short (sorry if that's TMI) and you'll feel only a little pain. Also-- we all will hopefully have to go through labour or a c-section which are both much worse, so I think we should be able to handle a wax.

Just relax while you're there and don't feel awkward--- if you ask your esthetician, she/ he will tell you that most of the appointments they have are for Brazilians. They have multiple ones in a day and aren't phased by much! Just go to someone with good reviews online and it honestly won't hurt much! Good luck!

@doozer1345 It generally depends on the service and your personal hair growth. Most of the time it's between 4-6 weeks. I always try to get my clients on a waxing "schedule" every 4 weeks for a couple months, then they will eventually be able to have longer inbetween times. Hope that helps!
  • I have been waxing myself for years. I mow the lawn about one month, then scorch the earth the next month, so to speak. Yes, the landing strip area is the most painful. It gets less painful the more you do it. Haven't notices any difference since getting ktfu. Done it twice in 1st trimester.

I leave my labia alone and shave those.

This is exactly what I do.

I've gotten waxes before and I must say that the only time I get in-grown hairs is after a wax. This has happened at multiple, high-end places, so I think it is just my skin. I never get in-growns from shaving so I am sticking to that. Although I officially cannot see my lady bits, so I have been shaving blind. That is a little scary.

ETA: As I get closer to labor, I am thinking about not shaving at all. I can't imagine the annoyance of hair growing back coupled with delivery! No thank you! I may have to steal H's beard trimmer at that point. ;) Haha!

  • I can't imagine shaving blind. The very thought is terrifying.

Have you guys tried using mirrors? Just get a cheapie hand mirror from the drugstore and perch over it (you might have to angle it a bit by propping it against something). This works for me but I also don't have that big of a belly bump yet, so maybe it wouldn't work later on.
  • I had folliculitis twice in the bikini area and beyond. Worse feeling ever! So now I only trim and shave for special occasions. I check frequently for possible issues because, never again I say! So i plan to be bushy but neat and when I can't see it he'll have to assist. It could be fun.

Yeah...once your belly gets really big it gets very challenging. DH didn't tell me until after DD got here that my nethers towards the end looked like a patchy chia pet.

  • I just had a Brazilian done 2 weeks ago and have been going faithfully ever 6 weeks before for a year. It's amazing to not have to worry about my bits for a whole 6 weeks. Yeah getting it done isn't painless, but it isn't terrible.

I had mine super short for delivery, and it was perfect. No hairs were long enough to get stuck in my stitches, no butt hairs in the way of my hemorrhoids, and no worries about horrifying anyone during the actual delivery.

  • Before I got pregnant I often just waxed my bikini line and stomach and just shaved everywhere else and that wasn't bad at all but just 3 days ago I decided to get a Brazilian and omg was that painful!!! I have to be honest it was so very painful I almost kicked my water a few times but it felt good after I did, I like how smooth it is down there and I love that I don't have to worry about shaving for a few weeks (usually after 5weeks). I think I will do it throughout my pregnancy regardless of the pain, it was worth it in the end.
  • Just get a no fog mirror for the bathroom so you can see when you shave.
