Gah! She did it again!!! (Continuation of my MIL rant)

OhmyjesussprinkleschristinheaveneverlovingGOD!!! Guess who got an overstuffed package of threadbare consignment little boy newborn clothes in the mf'ing mail today???

What the hell is wrong with this woman? I sent her a text about it and her response was, "I know you're over saturated with clothes now but that just means you can return some of the new clothes you got and put that money towards diapers and things he'll need."

What. The. Ever. Loving. *edited for content because I just can't even right now*

Is it appropriate at this point to have a bonfire in the backyard and just burn all of this shit?

Ugh. Ok. Now that I've freaked out I guess I can scrape my sanity together, fold all this stuff and put it aside and have a sane conversation with DH about how to handle this diplomatically.

For anyone who comes on defending this MIL, don't defend if you don't know any of the history. This is the same woman who wanted access to OPs bank accounts so she could monitor their spending and was pissed when she got told no.

Yes. Basically, this MIL is crazy.
  • Literally hysterically laughing (I needed it)

SEND IT BACK..totally agree with the note to add a little extra kick
  • Geesh! It's not like she's getting this stuff for free so WHY on earth wouldn't she just use THAT money to buy you diapers and those kinds of necessities instead since she mentions it herself! That is so frustrating. If you already have plenty of clothes sending you big boxes of diapers would obviously be a great gesture...maybe she's addicted to thrift stores?
  • Goodness! This would drive me bonkers too!!! I would totally say bye I need diapers and wipes send me those! Maybe she will listen but I doubt it. Good luck with this MIL.

  • Yeah, if it happens again I would just write 'return to sender' on the box without opening it and take it back to the post office. Then the shipping she paid is also wasted, and maybe she won't do it again.
  • Sooooo crazy!
Totally agree with pp's just wanted to say holy hell!! Donate to a women's shelter maybe just to switch it up? Oh- and take the tax deduction!
  • @TomekiaB

Sure! I could totally use a Christmas Story bunny suit. Though I don't know what I'm going to do with a *new* item of clothing. Hahaha

    Ugh.

I ended up calling her last night and saying I'm putting all of these aside and we can go together when she visits in January (Lord, help me) to the local consignment store and trade all of them in for a larger size and/or cash them out for diapers. She was "baffled" as to why I'd want to that but at least didn't have a nuclear melt down over it.

Probably because she brought up the subject of Christmas presents for the kids and I didn't just immediately shut her down and let her go on and on about a toy set that a) won't fit in my house and b) my kids won't be interested in. So, obviously, I am just expecting it to show up next month ...
  • @Bombmom3 you must have the patience of a saint to deal with that woman

Haha, If it was actually the pink bunny outfit I would not hesitate to use it for my Christmas card but it is a blue dog with "shoulder ears" so the joke would be lost!
  • Can I just say I'm happy the crap my MiL over buys is at least brand new? I mean, the amount of wooden toys I have that is supposed to be for ages 3-6 is ridiculous, but at least they are not consignment. :)

At your last post I didn't fully understand the lengths your MIL goes to... Now I think I do. She sounds like a nightmare! I have an appreciation for my own now. (Who will be here any minute with another truckload of stuff, I'm sure.)
  • @blansaw
That teacher comment is *exactly* why I don't regret moving half the country away from mine and my DH's family. God, I'd lose my freaking mind.

Oh, I don't know. Too much unwanted stuff is still too much stuff in the grand scheme of things.

I do wish she would think of diapers and things like that though!! I don't need toys cluttering up my house before baby can even use them. :(
  • @chaelainev
Maybe have the same talk I had with mine? Just "Hey, I can't use this now, let's trade it in together and get either more age appropriate stuff of diapers/supplies?" I mean, mine wasn't thrilled but was at least receptive to the idea. Plan B if she balked was to tell her I'd just donate or mail the unwanted things back from here on out.

Nope. I am TERRIFIED of upsetting my MiL. But I'm learning how to not accept most of her stuff. Today she is out buying a vintage stroller. When she mentioned I could have it, I told her how great it would look at her cottage and she took the hint. ;)
  • At least I'm not terrified of making the woman mad or upset. DH knows she's nuts about certain things and backs my play. I just hate the drama and do what I can to side step it, especially since I normally feel like there are bigger fish to fry with her (usually). It helps that she isn't a nasty person and her heart is mostly in the right place (even if her head isn't).
  • My sister's MIL bought my nephew a pony for his second birthday ...

No shit. Did she also pay for stabling, board, vet visits, etc? Either way, that is insane.
  • There is something wrong with her OP!!! Control freak much?? It's like she wants to dress your kid. Thank god she is out of state. I would just keep the stuff and only have the babe wear it when with her. Ughhhh!!!!!#

I have to one-up you guys...lol. My own grandmother is obsessed with thrift/garage sale finds. I've given up on receiving anything new or useful from her. rather than sending used clothes or used toys for my one year old, she sends a used Christmas tree skirt for HIM, and is offended when I suggest books or toys in the future! Now that is bat-s?$&-crazy.

She sends way too much stuff to keep it.

  • My mom and grandma buy so much crap from Goodwill for my kids, it's insane. I totally understand. Two Christmases ago, I opened a gift from my grandma and it was a pair of linen pleated St. John's Bay high waisted Capri pants circa 1992. When I got home, I tried them on just for craps and giggles, and there were two giant holes in the butt. I couldn't even be mad, I was laughing so hard!

Her recent purchase for my kids was a Halloween lamp that supposedly came from an antique store and it's creepy AF. I'm honestly afraid to even use it because of old wiring or something.

This is like a special episode of Hoarders.

I'd be curious to see the inside of her house, actually.

You need to tell this weirdo off though. Seriously. She's actively trying to steal the pleasure of dressing your child. She had her chance. She wants yours too.

She's the eater of worlds and must be stopped.

Edited because expletives exhibit an unwelcoming tone...
