When is it appropriate to start registering? I know it is obviously too early now as most of us aren't out of our first tri yet. Just curious what others are thinking.
I searched but didn't find anything in our group for this, sorry if I missed it!
Well, I already registered but only because I want to get the discount on a double stroller. I put my due date as March so they will send me the coupon to use on any item in my registry. I am also using it to keep track of what car seats I want since we will be 3 across and have to make sure the ones we get will fit.
ETA- our registry is for me only to keep track of what we need. It won't be shared with anyone.
We've made a registry to record items that we're interested in for the time being but no one knows nor will they know for quite awhile. On it, we have 3 or 4 car seats, strollers that fit to the seats, a few different pack-and-play models, a few bouncy seats/swings etc. As we make decisions, we'll cut out the duplicates but we aren't in any rush at the moment.
You might wait until a month or so before your first shower to ensure everything is in stock around the time of your shower - unless you plan to actively update your registry. Seems to me that most showers are between weeks 28-36.
Thanks ladies! Great idea to separately register early to get a completetion coupon for things you don't expect others to buy! I have been pinning items to a private board on Pinterest to eventually transfer over to a registry. I have my eye on some very specific items. I've been a nanny for years and have used so many brands and models of things I know what things (crap) you don't really need when you're having a baby, haha, and also what's really important and worth the investment!
I started one yesterday but it's only because I'm feeling overwhelmed and want to start getting an idea of what we need and what it's all going to cost! My son is only 15 months, so we thought we wouldn't need much but now with multiples, we need more than we thought!
I am going to wait a while, partly because I am still in my first tri and its so hard to think ahead while also hoping that everything is okay and getting 'out of the woods' so to speak. But also because I dont want to register for a ton of stuff and then have it be out of stock/past season. Since i'm due in June I'll prob wait till summer stuff comes out like maybe late Feb.
I had friends who waited to find out the gender and they had 2 amazon/big box store shopping carts ready to go, and when the baby was born they just clicked 'order' on that shopping cart. But that was more for necessities and maybe not stuff you would register.
Also, being totally new to this, I accept that I have no idea what I'm doing LOL

I'd love a quick list of do's and don'ts! I literally have no idea what I am doing!!!
DH wants to wait until after Christmas so our families don't buy us baby stuff. He said it's the last Christmas where he will get good stuff, poor guy.
We're not buying anything until after the 20wk ultrasound where (hopefully) everything is okay. Prolly won't start a regisrty until after that point either
I've started one on MyRegistry.com (used it for our wedding registry 3 years ago and had lots of people tell us how easy it was to use! Also they have a button like Pinterest, so it's ridiculously easy for me, too), but it's set to private and is just for me to add whatever I'm interested in for now.
Eventually I'll refine it before making it public, and I'll more than likely share it with my Mom and MIL way before anyone else... I know the two of them will want to start shopping ASAP (once we tell them a couple weeks before xmas); they're addicts and it's the first grandbaby in DH's family and mine.
I've selected a bunch of stuff from Buybuybaby, Giggle and Sprout SF (local store).
I think set up my registry around 14 weeks with DS mainly because BRU was having a completion gift card promotion that was ending (and I was bored). Of course, the promotion was extended.
I'd say it was too early mainly because the majority of the items I registered for when out of stock before my shower. I think if you're somewhere like Amazon that might not be as likely to happen.
I second checking out lucieslist.com she was my lifesaver (and I still use her site as my #1 reference source)

I have never received baby items for Christmas. I have a September baby and a July baby. Family bought gifts for the kids, but never gifted us baby items except at our shower or right after the babies birth.

My DH's bday is 12/15, so he's always had this birthday gifts overlapping/combining with Christmas thing and now I feel like he's over it- but 8-10 years ago he wasn't, haha. We're telling his parents we're pregnant when we celebrate his bday with them on 12/12, and I know my MIL will spend the following 13 days up to Christmas purchasing as much baby stuff as she can! She's just a shop-a-holic, and this the first grandbaby. I actually wouldn't be surprised if she already has stuff stock-piled in her gift closet. This is the only reason I've selected some stuff/started on a registry... I just know I'll end up with so much stuff we won't want or use if I don't give her some (kind) guidance.
All that being said, I think every family is different and I know that my parents and my side of the family won't purchase us any baby stuff for Christmas.

Lucie's List is a good place to start:

Triplets due 6/29/16 also from an IUI!
