Pain behind knee - blood clot?

I woke up last night a few times with aching pain behind my right knee, woke up a bit panicked thinking it could be a clot. I'm at work now and it's continuing while I sit, i'm stretching and rubbing it but am getting increasingly worried because it now feels swollen... I'm 5 weeks. My OB doesn't open for another hour. Anyone experience this?

Re: Pain behind knee - blood clot?

  • I had a blood clot 10 years ago that started as pain behind my knee. I would call your regular doctor or a nurse line, explain your pain and worries, and see what they say. My clot was found by ultrasound, so they may have you come in for one. But it's better to be safe than sorry.

  • Thank you! I just left a message with the nurse at my OB - she said it could be a clot or maybe my electrolytes are low? Either way i'm super worried... argh.

  • Hopefully they get you in and take a closer look.

For reference: A few weeks ago, I had some weird marking on my leg, with a bit of pain.  They sent me to my PCP for blood work which included a D-dimer range (can indicate blood clots).  That came back elevated (which so many things can cause it to be elevation, including just being pregnant).  However, because of that, they made me go in for an ultrasound on my legs.

  • Thank you! Just got off with my doctor and they want me to get an ultrasound today. With me luck.

    What was your result @jules08?

Good luck, I hope all goes well.  (The markings - looks like a thick purple lace pattern - are likely from dehydration since I've been super sick, but no blood clot)
  • Hope all goes well.  I had pain behind my knee after pregnancy and ended up being a slight in the knee tear that was causing a bakers cyst.  Build up of fluid from swelling and inflammation. It eventually went away. Just offering another suggestion. Bottom line, it is always best to get things checked out.
  • What did you find out?
  • @carig63 - They didn't find anything and think it could be severe dehydration from being sick ... it's gone now but i'm still weary of it. Thanks for checking back in! :)

  • I'm glad they didn't find anything. Mainline that water, and try a banana or two. :)

  • My doctor also told me to walk around frequently (especially from just sitting) and to keep my legs stretched out if possible. I don't know how helpful that is, but just thought I'd pass it along. Glad to hear it's nothing major!
