All hail the Banana!

So this morning I was suffering from my usual migraine accompanied by some pretty vigorous dry retching. Looking around the kitchen, I grabbed a banana. Lo and behold 5 mins later the heaving had stopped! I guess this is why they recommend the BRAT diet (banana, rice, apple sauce and toast) for sickness. Tbh, I never really paid much attention till now! Has anyone tried the BRAT diet for MS? The theory is, Bananas increase the production of mucus in the stomach which reduces irritation to the stomach lining.
Bananas..... friend or foe? Feel like a mini experiment is required!

  • I ate a banana Monday morning then I received a visit from the vomit fairy. Haven't touched one since. :( but I love bananas.

    So...one down vote for bananas....lol.
  • Havent tried bananas in the morning, I keep forgetting to pick some up from the store. Toast and Apples of BRAT don't go over so well for me so I'm not overly optimistic.

Well in the defense of bananas - I ate them everyday for about 2 weeks before that and they didn't make me vomit :)

  • A dancing banana.....haha...now I've seen everything!
  • The good thing about eating bananas when you don't feel good is that if you DO throw up afterwards, it tastes like banana! (I used to have killer hangovers and DH always got me bananas and Gatorade). Gatorade is also good to rehydrate if you want something other than water.

    Hope they continue to help!!

  • Sometimes they like me and sometimes they don't. I have acid reflux though, and that much sugar on an empty stomach can cause issues for me. I did have one cut up into my Cheerios this morning though. Yum.

  • I have been making myself a banana spinach smoothie for breakfast. so far so good.
  • I haven't tried it for MS but the BRAT diet is more if you had diarrhea. Now that plus ACV is the miracle poop cure, I swear by it.
  • I have been eating loads of bananas in the morning and they've really helped me. I also have some in the freezer to stick in my food processor and add honey and granola if I'm feeling fancy in the morning. Oh how I love bananas!!!!!
