Sleeping Question - witching hour

Just wanted to see if anyone else is experiencing this / has advice.  I found this article on the website and find that it really speaks to me!
https://www.thebump.com/a/baby-fussy-at-night

My little babe is 5weeks and is a real sleeping champ... except is super fussy between 5pm - 12am.  I pump breastmilk most of the time and have been occasionally supplementing with formula.  It seems like I have things under control and know what I am doing for the most of the day and then dinner time comes around and s*^# really hits the fan!  It seems there is nothing I can do to soothe her.    Is anyone else having this problem?

Thanks!

Re: Sleeping Question - witching hour

  • We experienced the witching hour for about a week around 7 weeks. It lasted about 2-3 hours each night from about 8pm-11pm, but then she would sleep 8 hours! It felt like there was nothing we could do to smooth her and we just had to hold her while she screamed until she exhausted herself. It was hard, but I knew it was just a phase. She is still sleeping through the night but goes down much easier now.

  • @ameares721 I find she sleeps really well after her fussiness too!    For example, last night she fussed off and on from about 6pm-11pm and then slept from 11pm-5am!  Totally not complaining, but it is nice to hear that this "witching hour" is a phase and we aren't doing anything wrong.

  • It also sounds like the purple crying they talk about at the hospital. Not colic, but a developmental phase.
