My LO is 3 weeks old and has seemed to hate the swaddle since day 1. So far I've tried receiving blankets, swaddle me, and the halo sleep sack/swaddle. She doesn't seem to respond well to any of them and can break through all of them so I started using the halo sleep sack to swaddle her with her arms out. I've even tried the "unbreakable swaddle" method where you use a receiving blanket to keep her arms in and then put the swaddle me on her. That seems cruel to me so I gave that up quickly. I don't want to do my baby a disservice by not swaddling and it seems every mom in America swaddles their baby so I'm just curious if anyone's given up on the swaddle like me?!? Any advice appreciated!
My LO firmly rejected the blankets, and the sleep sack just seemed to frustrate her... I'd hear lots of little grunts from her working her hands out! I ended up getting one of the love 2 dream swaddles and she LOVES it. It lets her keep her hands up and still wiggle them, but she can't get them out. It's our sleep genie!
Just looked that up. Looks adorable. I feel like a lunatic because of all the swaddle stuff I'm buying, but she is pretty fussy so I might try it! Thanks!
I use The Ollie Swaddle. Baby sleeps 8+ hours straight and wakes up happy!!! It gives her restful sleep because otherwise she moves and grunts until she wakes herself up. You can do arms in or out. It's a little pricey but I can't put a price on sleep
We swaddle and my lo loves it. If he is fussing all we have to do is swaddle him in a swaddleme and he immediately calms down. If we didn't swaddle then I'd imagine that we wouldn't get much sleep. He does break free every once in awhile, but that usually only happens when his pacifier falls out and he gets upset and starts wiggling around. If your lo doesn't like the swaddle then don't force it, there are plenty of lo's that aren't swaddled, my sil never swaddled my niece because she hated it and would freak out if you even tried to swaddle her and would eventually end up breaking free. She was a terrible sleeper, but I don't think that had anything to do with her not being swaddled, I think she would've been even if they were able to swaddle her. As pp said, you could always swaddle lo with her arms out, but if she is fine not being swaddled then I wouldn't even bother.
We swaddle because she loves it. I can't nurse her while she is swaddled because she won't wake up! We just use the Muslin swaddling clothes. We love them. She gets hot do those are nice and thin.
My son had not been swaddled since we left the hospital but when we transitioned him from sleeping in his rocker at night to his crib I found that using the swaddle me helped so much. I wrap him in it when I feed him before bed and he sleeps about 4 hours wakes up to eat and goes back to sleep for about 4 more hours and doesn't cry hardly at all, it is amazing!
my son loves being swaddled. However, he's starting not to like his arms swaddled so been doing "arms out." He can only sleep when he's swaddled up. We also love the Muslin swaddling !
Re: Does everyone swaddle?!?!
