Babywearers- A little help please

After reading the expensive gear thread, I was excited to learn more about different types of wraps.  Wearing DD when we've traveled has always life much easier.  That has become more difficult, as she's gotten older.  Next month, I'd like to wear her on my back as we maneuver the airport.

Any suggestions for a tot carrier that's TSA friendly (no metal)?  She'll be 18 mos and I'll be 15 weeks along.

  • Ergo all the way.

  • I would go with a soft form carrier like an Ergo or a Tula. I personally prefer a Tula but an Ergo is great and a little better on the budget.

  • Ergo. I love mine and we use it all the time. I love the Solly Wrap for wrapping, but you can't do back carries with it.

    Another vote for Ergo.

Though when we travelled they had me take her out and hold her in front of me with my arms out through the scanners and put the ergo on the belt to get scanned

  • Is she in 2t pants? If so, toddler tula! I wore DS when he was 20 mos to the airport and it worked great. He even slept on me once we got there while we waited for our rental car.
DS 9/2/13 was a BFP from an IUI!
Triplets due 6/29/16 also from an IUI!

I also vote ergo, but I was able to walk through while still wearing DD. They just did the explosives swab on my palms. This was also over a year and a half ago, so maybe regulations have changed.

  • Great! I have an Ergo. I will look at a tula.

@cattuccino- It's awful you had to take your LO out of the carrier. I've never had that happen.

I have a Lille baby and I love it! I wore it through security with no problem!
  • Toddler Tula but it's a bit pricier so Ergo if it's just a one time thing ;)
  • I have a Beco Gemini and wore DS on my back frequently over the summer. If I was going to go up another step I'd get a toddler Tula. But I haven't really worn him much since getting pregnant so I'll save my money.

  • I've used just a woven wrap to go through security and that worked great (just had to get the explosive hand swabs but they didn't ask me to take her down). But a bit trickier to use than a structured carrier...but totally fun and pretty and worth it :) your Ergo should also work fine though.

No matter what you do you'll still have to remove her on the actual flight for takeoff and landing, but it sure does make the airport part of it easier.
  • You could also look into a mei tai if this is something that you're using for more than just this one trip because you can tie off different ways to not put pressure on the belly in the future. If just for this trip, find a clearance ergo.
  • Ergo has my vote!
  • Ergo vote here. I'm still wearing my 3 year old, and 15 month old off and on. Though I probably won't wear the older one much anymore. He's pushing 35 lbs and the pressure is too much.

  • The toddler Tula! Hands down! I have tried so many carries and wraps and especially for an older child I would suggest the Tula Toddler carrier. My son is 2.5 and he falls asleep on the way to picking up my daughter from preschool and because I have to sign her out in like 3 different places (they are super on top of safety)  I wear him in the carrier. ;) Its super comfortable for me and my toddler.
  • Thanks, ladies!  It looks like my Ergo needs to be dusted off.

The Tula Toddler looks great!  It may get added to the collection.

  • Unless your kid is solidly into 2T pants the Toddler Tula will be much too big and hyperextend her hips/legs. A standard Tula still fits my petite almost 3yo perfectly and my avg sized 18mo boy. Lillebaby is my 2nd choice after a Tula with Ergo coming in last just b/c it's panel is much smaller and doesn't last as long usually. There are other brands inbetween those 3 but don't want to ramble too much ;)
