RE specialist for multiple mc

Hi,
Anyone seeing an RE for multiple mc? Ive had 3 empty sacs. No embryo on any:( my ob thinks its genetic. Got a bunch of lab work and i have heterozygous mthfr. But now i need to get genetic testing. So scared. I guess its not common to not have a heartbeat w 3 mc. Im so so sad. I read blogs and tons of threads and most multiples say ive had 3 or more but one of them at least had a heartbeat. Im crushed. Scared this may not happen for us

Re: RE specialist for multiple mc

  • Hi, I'm sorry for your losses.  I'm a recurrent loser (4 losses, no living children) and am being seen by Ma.ry Steph.enson in Chicago.  3 of mine had no heartbeat, but the fourth one did.

First, get thee to an RE, not an OB. Are you over 35?  If so, that may be why your OB stated your losses are genetic.  But that's still huge speculation on his/her part.

I'd strongly encourage you to find an RE who specializes in recurrent loss.  They aren't common, but they do exist.  A regular RE is going to be far more experienced in getting you pregnant via IVF, IUI or other means, but they aren't great at miscarriage.  I've seen both a regular RE and now the specialist.  The specialist is WAY more aggressive and knowledgeable.

Have you read Coming to Term ? Highly recommend it.

  • Ok. Thank you. I just turned 34 on Sunday. I was 32 and 33 with all of this.did you find out why in your case? Its just hurts because we can but nothing comes of it. I just dont understand. I really hope you get your babies too. @chaine1 Thanks for replying. I felt like it was unheard of
  • @sandiego715, I am still unexplained, but I am currently undergoing further testing with Steph.enson.  You really need to find an RE.  Your OB is purely speculating on the reasons for your losses.  Find a doctor who can hopefully get you some real answers.  Good luck moving forward.

  • sandiego715  I am sorry to hear what you have been going through. I do not have any experience or knowledge, but I know there are programs and clinics specialized in miscarriages/early losses. I do not know where you are located but I know one in NYC called The Program for Early and Recurrent Pregnancy Loss (PEARL) in the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. You might even consult with them , maybe ? I am sure there are more places like this in other places. I thought you might want to consult with someone who is specialized in this.
  • Thank you all. @ZoeFer I am going to keep this in mind. I need to see a specialist for sure. I am currently having bad lower back pain since Monday. Hoping this means the miscarrying process is starting. Im happy because once this part is over, I can tey and find the answers. I did genetic testing and the results will be in next week. I saw the hematologist and she said take extra folic acid for my mthfr...um everywhere I read it says take folate. So, once the genetic results are in, I can take the next step. Truly praying 2016 is yr. 2014 i had a mc but it was a good yr because I married a pretty amazing man who supports me in this. We have been together for so long and now that we are married and are going through our 3rd mc, we have learned a lot anout eachother. It truly tests your marriage. I definitely married the right man even with all of this. All of this makes us all stronger
