Should I request an ultrasound

Hi! This is my first pregnancy. I had mirena for 5 years and had it removed on 9/25. Had my first period on 10/17 (it was barely 48 hours and SUPER light) and took a very positive pregnancy test on 11/10, which would have put me at 3weeks 3 days. The test line was significantly darker than the control line.

All that to say, I have a genetic mutation that causes issues with blood clots (factor 5). I went to my hematologist today and she wants me to start blood thinner injections at 8 weeks. I'm not scheduled to see my OBGYN until I'm 8 weeks. Should I request an ultrasound now to make sure I'm on track with how far along I am so I know when to start my shots? Or should I just chill out until I go see her in a few weeks?

  • Call your OB and ask what they want to do.

  • I think it's definitely necessary to mention all of this to your OB and request the ultrasound - they might decline as many don't like to do one until 8wks but it never hurts to ask. If anything, they should be aware of the blood clots and the injections you'll be taking before you start.

  • I agree, I would make sure your OB knows and see if they are willing to do an earlier dating ultrasound to confirm your dates.
