Baby Boy is due in April and I think we're down to our top 5 contenders. Big sister is Lillian Kay. Middle name will be Robert and the last name is 2 syllables, Trax—.

If you pick Nathan/Nathaniel, please comment which you prefer.

Re: Down to the Top 5!

  • I like Nathaniel with the option to call him Nathan. I think Lillian and Nathaniel go great together!

  • I like both Nathan and Nathaniel pretty ebecause I've always liked the nickname Nate. If I had to choose

  • I voted Gabriel. Nathan is a close 2nd, and I love nn Nate. All great names!
  • Charles nn Charlie is adorable! Nathaniel would be my second vote.
    DD: Ophelia 5/18/15
  • I voted for Gabriel. It's always been a name I've liked, but, unfortunately, DH doesn't... I don't think any of your options are bad. James would be my second choice, then Charles. I keep seeing the name Theodore everywhere, which turns me off from that one a bit. Nathan/Nathaniel are just nms.
  • I like Nathan better than Nathaniel.
  • Can't I just vote for all of them? Tough list you've got there. I'm curious if you're leaning a certain way, because I like them all. I voted Charles because I like the sound of Charles Robert and of Charles and Lillian together. I've also never met a real life baby named Charles. :) But gosh, I'd vote for any of them!
    It's a boy! Born 42 weeks, 2 days.

  • Theodore! I love that there are so many options for nn's. Adorable.

I love Theodore, but DH is wary of the alliteration. I really like all of them though, so he could definitely convince me if he has a different #1 :)
We each made a top 20-30 list from the SSA top 500, and these were our overlaps, so we have really talked about a front runner yet. With DD we had a 6 name list with a front runner that went to the hospital, and we'll likely do the same this time. Which means we have lots of time, the process just makes baby feel more "real".

  • I voted for Nathan. Good luck to you! :)
  • I also love James with Lillian, but I like all of your choices except Gabriel! That one is just the least best match with Lillian IMO.

  • I like Nathan better than Nathaniel.
  • I like James Robert as a fn/mn combo..
  • I really like James and Theodore, but I think James goes better with Lillian. Good luck, seems like you have a great start!

  • Ha, I've been looking for this thread ever since you posted about it on our birth month board!

I've always loved Gabriel, especially as I'm big into name meanings and it stems from the biblical 'Gavriel' who was one of the archangels. Can't go wrong by naming your son after a super-starred angel.

Otherwise, Nathaniel 'Nate' would be a second choice.

Haha, we laughed pretty hard that the top five AND the top 3 non overlaps (Calvin, George and Samuel) were all either Biblical, saints or kings. Apparently we like strong historical names :)

  • These are all solid names, you really can't go wrong with any of them! I voted for Theodore but Nathan is a close second for me.
  • Thanks for your thoughts everyone! Looks like we'll still have some debating to do, but that you guys agree with my favorite - now to see how DH really feels about the alliteration!!

  • I love Theodore and Theo as a nickname. As for the alliteration, it wouldn't bother me, and the actual sounds are different because of the Th so it barely even counts as alliteration if you ask me! ;)
  • Love Nathan. Strong name
