Just got the results of my ultra sound back, my baby is 90 percentile and is estimated to be 7 1/2 pounds. Does this mean I'll go soon? The doctor says it's because I gained too much weight. I only gained 40!
Not sure why your dr said that.. I'm petite and actually gained 40lbs with my third baby, never had a dr say I gained too much. With my first two I gained less. But all 3 of my children were over 8lbs. The weight of your baby has nothing to do with the weight you gain and vice-versa. It does not mean that you will go I to labor soon just because your baby is in the 90% range.
1st- these measurements are notoriously off by quite a bit.
2nd- 7 1/2 lbs isn't big by any means.
3rd- the weight you gain doesn't have a lot to do with how much baby gains. I gained 65 lbs in my 1st and had a 7 lb baby. 25 lbs in the subsequent 4 babies and had 7 1/2, 6, 8 1/2 and 6 1/2 lb babies.
4th- size of baby doesn't necessarily mean you'll go sooner or later. No matter what the size of the baby, they come when they're ready.
Good luck!
Edited to add- the heaviest baby I gave birth to stayed put the longest. He decided to come about 6 hours before I was set to be induced at 42 weeks. The rest were all 39-41 weeks. Every woman and pregnancy/labor is different.

I'm 37+2 and baby is measuring 97 percentile! I've only gained 24lb! I gained close to 60lb with my first and he never measured this big! My smallest baby (by scan) was born the earliest (8.3 - 10 days early) x
7.5lbs isn't that big at 37 weeks...at the end of the pregnancy, it's said that the baby gains about a half a pound a week...so assuming you go to 40 weeks, the baby would be about 9lbs (if the scan is even accurate). 9lb aren't unusually large by any means. I know several women who have pushed out 9lb+ babies without issue.
In some cases the baby's weight is proportional to what you have gained, but that's not always the case. Relax. You won't actually know how big he is until he decides to come out...which could be any time in the next 5 weeks. Growth scans are very often seriously inaccurate. Size has no bearing on when you will go inot labor. but if you're 37 weeks now, i can guarantee you'll go into labor at some point, either naturally or via induction, in the next 5 weeks.
If it helps, one of my friends had a growth scan 4 days before she was induced and was told that the baby was "at least 8lbs" and the baby came out at barely 6.5lbs. There's almost no point in putting any stock in the growth scan. it's purpose is usually more to make sure the baby has grown since the last scan than it is to tell you what the baby would weigh if it was born today.
These scans are notoriously inaccurate. I was told my baby was 95th percentile and to be prepared for her to be 10lbs .... She was born after my EDD and weighed 7lbs 2oz!
There is no way to know how much your baby weighs until they get here. And, even if he/she is a huge baby, you're in for the long haul here and there's not much you can do about it.
