5w3d pregnant and very nauseous - HELP

Hello all! I am 5w3d pregnant and over the last few days morning sickness (in my case all day) decided to make an appearance. Between the extreme fatigue and now the constant nausea, I'm practically bed ridden. Getting through the work day is brutal and I find myself crying a lot because it's so difficult to get through the day. Today I had to call out sick.
I'm looking for suggestions and your own stories as to how you dealt with these symptoms at work. It's truly painful to force myselfthrough the day feeling like this.
Thank you

  • Have you called your doctor? Perhaps there is something pregnancy-safe they can prescribe you.

Have you tried taking B6, ginger ale, or ginger tea?

  • I don't have any solutions, but I know how it feels. I don't have nausea yet with this pregnancy, but had it horrible with my daughter. I was on zofran with her and will never take that again bc of all the law suits. I hope you find something that works for you and hopefully it won't last long.
  • Do you try to eat frequently to try to curb the nausea/vomiting? You might want to call your doctor too, they can probably prescribe you something to take. Just remember, if you get really dehydrated you need to go to the ER. I hope it subsides soon!

  • Thank you ladies. It seems pretzel sticks and ginger ale at least keeps me from vomiting. I'm am trying to keep my eyes on the price and to make it through this. Amazing how I can feel so sick but not actually be sick. Thank you for the advice
  • I would contact your doctor and give him/her a run down of your symptoms. There are a lot of things they can do to help you with this.

  • Mints and ginger ale are all that seem to work for me. Good luck.
  • Ice cubes or slushie Gatorade helped me a lot! I couldn't really keep stuff down for the first 17 weeks. I went through a mashed potatoes and peas phase and then a Mac and cheese phase to not lose but so much weight.
Also try peppermint candies or sugar free Popsicles
  • european90  I am right there with you! I too feel so sick, but i'm not "sick". I told my husband this morning that it's hard to believe this could go on for another 2 or 3 months! So daunting to think about. It seems like all I can do is just pray. I am relying on God to get me through the day 100%. It's amazing how hard this is. Especially so because of keeping it a secret too!
  • Oh my, this is how I'm feeling. I'm 5weeks 2days and I'm constantly vomitting and I'm so fatigue with dizziness. I couldn't manage anymore. I have a doctors appointment in 2 days with my family doctor, however I couldn't wait.

I went to the emerg. They put me on and iv to rehydrate me, along with and iv drip med to help with the nausea.
    They then percribed me declectin
  • i didn't have extreme morning (or all day, in your case) sickness like i hear a lot of ladies here are experiencing. i did have some pretty rough mornings though, & being a server, it's not like i could go sit in the bathroom for 10mins & try to puke it out.
i found that drinking lemon water, sucking on frozen cubes of Gatorade, & slowly munching on soda crackers really helped me out. i would definitely talk to your doctor though if your nausea doesn't let up.
  • I swore by sea bands my first trimester. Bonus points that they are worn on the wrist so nothing has to go in your mouth.
  • Hugs to you, because I went through it, too! My severe nausea starting around only 2 weeks, and continued up until almost 11 weeks. I'm 11 weeks, 2 days, and still get a bit off and on, but not much. I had to deal with it at work the best I could. There was a lot of running to the bathroom. But trust me, staying home is worse, because you can brood on it. At work, you're forced to keep busy and your mind off of it. I had a food aversion (and still kind of do) to literally everything! Ginger ale and crackers were even no-nos. I lived on water and little else. I lost a good deal of weight, but my OB wasn't worried, so long as I could keep my water down. At this point, your baby is so small (not even considered a fetus until 9 weeks), that it's not really needing nutrients from you, so you don't have to worry about that.

I wish I could offer you more advice, but nothing helped my during that 2 months whatsoever. I only just heard about the pregnancy pops from a friend the other day. It sounds like those could have helped. Maybe look into them. Just keep in mind that it WILL pass! I wish you luck!

  • Ooo, I almost forgot! A little bit of half-caff coffee in the morning helped the first-of-the-day nausea a lot! It's ok to sip about 8 ounces of that, if you can.

I'm 5 weeks and experiencing similar symptoms. All-day nausea and extreme fatigue. A midwife from Kaiser recommended 25mg of B6 every 8 hours, and taking a Unisom tablet before bed each night.

I'm more of a natural remedy kind of person, so for immediate relief I've been putting a drop of Peppermint oil under my tongue and rubbing Lemon oil on the back of my neck as needed. And I'll sniff Ginger oil occasionally too. Strong stuff - can't stomach it orally - but smelling it works just as well!

Eating something before getting out of bed - a granola or Larabar, for example - has helped quite a bit. And never letting myself get hungry is critical. I'm snacking all day - almonds, string cheese, smoothies, etc.

    Hang in there!
