Rolling onto belly at night and I'm scared.

My LO will be four months on 11/23 and she recently started rolling from back to belly so we stopped swaddling her and are using a Halo transition swaddle where her arms are free. She's not sleeping through the night anymore, which we expected while she got used to not being swaddled but last night my husband woke me up to show me that she had rolled over and fallen asleep face down. Now I'm in a panic about her rolling onto her face at night when I'm sleeping but I'm not sure what I can even do about it! She isn't able to roll from belly to back yet, btw...

Re: Rolling onto belly at night and I'm scared.

  • My daughter 17 weeks has been rolling onto her belly for a couple weeks now. I know she can lift her head up and turn it and I just have to believe that she will be ok. I know things can happen regardless but I have faith. She is sleeping on her belly right now as a matter of fact. Unless you want to stress out all night every night and sit and watch her and flip her back to her back every time she flips you really have to just 'roll' with it. Make sure there are no blankets, pillows, stuffed animals etc that could harm LO. Good luck!

Was she face down or head to the side? I agree with PP, once they roll back to belly just make sure they're on a firm mattress, no blankets or animals etc. Otherwise you'll have to sit up all night watching.

You could get a Snuza monitor, I also saw one recently that's like a little sock and monitors breathing.

Of more interest is the breathable crib mattress. Basically it fits over a box-like piece and it's breathable, so even if baby is face-down on it it's open on the underside so they can breathe. I saw it as an ad on Facebook and can't remember the name of it! Maybe someone else does. I was thinking of getting one myself.

  • My daughter does this and her pediatrician says since they can roll there's nothing we can do to stop her.
  • My LO is 18 weeks. He's been sleeping on his belly for a few weeks now. It took him about a week to get used to it and like it but now he sleeps so well. I put him down on his back and within minutes he's on his belly fast asleep. As said above, the Dr says that once they can do this, there's really nothing you can do about it. I will check the video monitor occasionally and he's always facing to the side. You will get more comfortable as the weeks pass. I checked on him constantly at first!
  • my baby's been sleeping on his belly since he was three weeks old. if your LO is strong enough to roll over there shouldn't be an issue. she's just getting comfy!
