I was brushing my teeth this morning and it looked like a murder scene in my sink when I spit. Does anyone else have SUPER sensitive gums? I didnt get this symptom with my first baby!
This happened to me towards the end of the first trimester this time. Like you, I didn't have it with my last pregnancy. A few times my gums have just started bleeding a little after I had been (accidentally) clenching my jaw. It's unnerving but, apparently fairly normal. I'm making an appointment with my dentist anyway though, since I'm due, and I'll ask him about it.
Yes Every night when I floss it's out of control. I already have one sensitive area from a recent root canal, and it just won't heal properly. My gums were a hot mess with my last pregnancy, too.
I switched to a sensitive toothbrush and it helped with the pain and bleeding. Went to my regular 6 monthly dentist appointment two days ago and she said to basically ignore the bleeding since my gums are healthy. The bleeding is just due to increased blood flow and is normal. She made me change to a salt water rinse instead of listerine because she said the alcohol can dry the mouth and lead to acidic saliva which can be a cause of inflammation and corrosion. I did have some inflammation in the back so i have to go again in 3 months to make sure it's under control.
Gingivitis probably? I went to the dentist and then I got my teeth and gums professionally cleaned. All good since then, I just have to keep up a good dental routine, floss etc....
But I would definitely recommend seeing a dentist or hygienist and - if they recommend - get a professional clean.
Gingivitis can really mess up your gums and have long term effects on your teeth, if it is very bad and not treated.
Sigh. Three bedtimes in a row now my gums have bled some after my toddler has knocked his head into my face. He's more restless than usual because his rocking/storytime lap space is getting crowded, and I just can't take accidental hits to the teeth anymore. This is a bad combination.
This has happened with me in two pregnancies now. I didn't have any cavities (and was so proud of that!) until I become pregnant. The first pregnancy at the end I had 4. Going to the dentist next month to check out what has happened so far this one.
Oh and they said this was totally normal. They weren't surprised at all.
This is me with all 3 of pregnancies. My gums are normally super sensitive, always have bled if I brushed more than 2x a day or used anything except a Colgate brand soft bristled brush. Now that I'm pregnant it's just blood everywhere when I brush regardless of what "precautions" I take. But I haven't gotten the nosebleeds ever so if this is my trade off, I'll take it lol
Re: Gushing gums
Edit: it gets pretty bad. Sometimes I'll wake up in the middle of the night with a mouthful of blood.
