Too late for newborn photos?

My LO is 2 weeks and was wondering when it's too late to take newborn photos . I wanted to put him in a wrap but it has yet to get to my house. I was wondering if he's too big for it and if they should be days old while wearing this kind of wrap for photos. Anyway, how late would you take these kind of professional photos ? TIA

Depends on how big and alert your kiddo is. My first was two weeks when we did them and she wouldn't fit in any of those type things and could not be posed because she was wide awake for the whole session. However they are still gorgeous photos that I treasure... She was also 9 days late and over 9 pounds.

I did this one earlier (12 days late and also over 9 lbs) but lots of friends have done them around 2 weeks with no issue....

From what I've read no later than 2 weeks, because they're more alert and not as likely to let you pose them in all the cute sleepy newborn photo poses.

That said you could still have some professional photos done, they just may not be typical newborn photos.

Agree with PPs. My little was about that age and it was hard to get her to pose. I fed her half way through and then she was much more sleepy and relaxed.

My photog won't do them after 10 days bc they aren't as malleable when they sleep after that point, but I'm sure you could still get some good shots just maybe not the really posed ones!

My DD was a month old. We waited because she is a preemie and had some issues gaining weight so she was very unhealthy looking for the first couple weeks home. Her pictures turned out great.

Mine had them done at 3 weeks. He is on the small side so had no problem fitting into any props. He was pretty fussy tho so it took a lot of patience and handling to get him into poses. We weren't able to get some of the cutesy poses I wanted but they still turned out great.

We did ours at 2 weeks, but our photographer avoided a few poses.

We are getting ours done at 2.5 wks. Orginally scheduled for 1.5wks but photographer had a cold- happy she let us know! I would give it a shot, can't hurt to be a few days past the 2wk mark and you'll still have beautiful photos!

We did ours at 8 days and he screamed bloody murder until about 5 mins before our session was over (then proceeded to sleep the entire afternoon). He is now 2 1/2 weeks and I think it would be easier now. He is much less fussy. Just talk to some photographers. I wouldn't not do it because of the posing, anything you have done you will treasure!

We did ours at 5 weeks and I only have the preview. We did a lot of newborn type poses as well as others with her showing her wonderful blue eyes

I only do newborn photos for babies under 14 days....I prefer under 12. That being said, I have done them for babies that were 3 & 4 weeks, but I explain what to expect with a baby that age. In those sessions, babies arent as sleepy and some poses are out, but I can still get some good photos of the baby. I recommend more lifestyle photos at that point.

What are "lifestyle photos"? I really wanted to use the knit wrap I ordered , would it be odd to have him in that being awake ? He still sleeps throughout the day and is 7 lbs

My photographer does newborn photos for 2 weeks and under. She prefers to do girls in the first week since they seem to be more alert. We did my son's photos at 7 days. My son is still very sleepy now (4weeks) and I think we could still do almost all of the shots, but probably not for 3 hours like before. My photog had a prep sheet she gave us with instructions on how to keep him awake and hungry for a certain timeframe prior to the appointment, and then feed right upon arrival so that he would sleep for the session. I could still manage doing that now with my son and we could get some good shots. Just call around and check with some photographers and see. Just keep your baby awake and don't feed prior to the appointment (2-3 hours) alt hat way he is more likely to sleep and you might get more of those sleepy shots.
