Doesn't feel real yet!

Am I the only one? First time mom here... I'm 5w3d. The only symptom I have is being a little extra tired lately. But we told our parents this weekend, thinking then it kick in. But nope not yet! Am I the only one?? If this is not your first pregnancy, when did it really hit you? I want to be excited and scared and all the other emotions you feel while pregnant, but it's just not happening yet!

Re: Doesn't feel real yet!

  • I'm right there with you girl! This is my first baby as well, and I plan on telling my parents next weekend. (Eeeek!)  I think it really hit me that this was real when I had my first ultrasound and I could physically see the little angel and a fluttering heart beat! That's when it sunk in. Before seeing it for myself, I felt like it wasn't actually happening. <3

I don't go for the ultra sound for another 2 1/2 weeks ... I'm thinking it will hit me then!
  • I got my first U/S at my confirmation visit since I said I didn't know when my LMP was. (I actually did know...lol ;) ) But they wanted to get a better idea of how far along I was. Two weeks will fly by, it will be here before ya know it!

  • Yea, besides the fact that I can't make it thru the day without a nap, I'm still in a bit of disbelief. For some reason I've been fearful of mc, it just seems to good to be true so I haven't been doing anything baby related. Before I was on Pinterest for hours looking at everything baby. We're also waiting to tell family and friends until Christmas so having no one else know I think is contributing to the oh wait, I really am pregnant!! I'm beginning to let myself start planning (I've been looking at nursery ideas all day). I have an u/s on Thursday and hoping I'll be able to hear a heart beat!
  • I had a miscarriage years ago, before me and my husband were even engaged. I didn't even know I was pregnant, until I went to the doctor for really bad "menstrual cramps". I think that may be part of the "it doesn't feel real yet" issue. It's gotta hit my during that first ultra sound. If it doesn't, then I'll know there really is something wrong with me !! Haha

I have been on Pinterest a lot lately, but it feels like it's just for "when/if" it happens. Not bc it actually happened !

I agree with @TVascos11511...the ultrasound will solidify it for me. It's funny, I just had this conversation with my fiance .  It still hasn't quite sunk in for him.  Personally, as every day goes by I get a new, confirming symptom just throwing me into reality that it's finally happening.  My boobs hurt.  I can smell what someone's eating a mile away.  No period (obviously).  I'm EXHAUSTED...and a multitude of other symptoms!

Can't wait to see that little heartbeat in a couple of weeks.  It's gonna hit us both, I just know it...life's never gonna be the same! <3

  • My fiancé just asked me as well how I felt about it and I said that it hasn't sunk in yet either. I know it will hit me when I hear that heart beat on the 30th of November. I'm going to be 6 wks tomorrow and all I have experienced was cramping in the same spot and slightly increased hunger. Oh and I'm definitely fatigued!
  • @TVascos11511 it looks like you might have the same due date as me since I was also 5w3d yesterday! With my first pregnancy, I kept forgetting that I was pregnant even though I heard and saw the heartbeat at 6 weeks. It wasn't until my 12th week ultrasound when I actually saw the baby that it finally hit me - hey, I guess I really AM pregnant! So, it'll come in time! Even now, second time around, I still forget sometimes because I don't have any symptoms.
  • @Nzamorw looks like we might have the same DD. I'll be 6 weeks tomorrow also. Has your cramping been like an all day thing, if you don't mind me asking? I've been experiencing cramps since before I even found out. I'm eating pretty well also and I'm hoping that it's a good sign as week 6 is generally when morning sickness kicks in.

  • Looks like I have the same due date as well so funny I'm wishing all of you great luck and healthy pregnancies .it's our first pregnancy and I feel like it's too good to be true I read about miscarriages and friends of mine had miscarriages and miscarriage this miscarriage that ...statistics and I can't help but be scared and I know I should take it out of my mind and shove it away and I do but then it comes back is anyone else having this problem? I also I'm planning to tell my parents on Christmas Eve and the rest of the world and my husband's family when we're at 12 weeks and he's really looking forward to telling my parents on Christmas Eve and coming up with really cute ideas and I really excited to but ...ugh i know. If its meant to be it will happen but. Its just scary. My first appt isnt until the 9th of december. Seems so far.
  • Totally with. Haven't had many strong symptoms beside tired and I'm estimating I'm at about 7 weeks.I have an U/S in a couple of days, hopefully that will really kick it up!
  • With my first, I didn't really feel pregnant until my first ultrasound at 12 weeks then it really kicked in when DD started moving. I still with you on this pregnancy. Besides fatigue, I don't have a ton of symptoms.
It'll feel more real soon!
  • I'm right around 5 weeks too, and it doesn't feel real at all yet. In fact, I've only said it out loud maybe twice... to my doctor's office and to the HR person when I was asking about my short term disability. I didn't even really tell DH...he said it out loud and I nodded! I'm thinking of saying it to myself in the mirror every day to just let it sink in and appreciate the fact that I have no crappy symptoms. The only things I'm feeling are sore, enlarged breasts.

  • @leelleela20 The Christmas reveal is gonna be fun! Just about the 12 week mark. I was looking on Etsy and I found some really cute "You're going to be grandparents!" frames for the ultrasound pic. A little corny, but the look ony mom's face is gonna be priceless, lol.

My first u/s is the 11th and I'll be just a little over 9w then. I don't think I'll be at ease until I hear that little heartbeat <3 You're totally not alone. Every day that passes I'm just so thankful that it's sticking :)

  • @SMLEU July 12? I didn't get an official one from the doctor yet. That date was from different sources on the internet.

The same spot cramping is less now and switched to subtle nausea for me within the past two days.
  • It didn't hit me until my first ultrasound.
  • It's still not hitting me, other than tender boobs I have no symptoms. I lost 5lbs last week, and I have a ton of energy. I'm very grateful for this right now, I know it won't last. I believe I'm 4weeks right now waiting on blood results for a more exact due date! Dec 12 is my first doctors appointment!
  • It definitely doesn't feel real yet to me! I took another test today just to be sure...and I'll probably do the last one tomorrow morning with FMU. I feel like I'm imagining my heartburn and slight nausea and fatigue.

  • This is my third pregnancy (first 2 ended in mc), and it does not feel real to me yet either. The only real symptoms, aside from a BFP, are fatigue are sore boobs, with the occasional bout of nausea. I have a US on Wednesday to determine how far along I am since I conceived right after MC in late September.
I hope that the US will make it actually feel real.
  • I still have a hard time believing it. I have my very first ultrasound on Wednesday so that will help. We will also be telling our immediate families on Thanksgiving so that will help solidify it, I think. It's been killing me not to be able to talk to my mom about it! Other than that, the symptoms are all too real for me...constant nausea and dry heaving and extreme exhaustion by the time I'm done at work (I work with two year olds so I'm really done by the end of the day!).
  • This is also my first time. My symptoms have been pretty subtle, and I probably wouldn't have made the connection if I didn't already know. Tender boobs, peeing a lot, really super tired. I've got a bunch of ginger candy ready for nausea, which works for me for motion sickness so I'm hoping it does the trick for morning sickness too.

  • 2 kids later and it still has not sunk in.
    Thank God for Raid.

  • Looks like we around same day. I'm just over 4weeks. My estimate on due date is around July 30th.
  • Ditto @PugsandKisses ! It's my 3rd as well and it doesn't seem quite like reality yet.

  • I'm right there with you!  With my DD (who's 3 now), I had almost no early symptoms aside from sore boobs and some cramping (which I also get when AF is coming.  This time around it seems to be the same so far (at 4 weeks, 4 days)... I'm tired, have sore boobs and cramping but otherwise no symptoms so it doesn't seem real yet.  I think with my DD, it didn't really start to feel until I was showing and could feel some kicks.  Until then, just enjoy being relatively symptom-free for now!
  • I keep telling myself it's real but it hasn't sunk in yet for sure. MH is a weird mix of super happy and super apprehensive and scared to accept it for fear of something going wrong. I'm dying for my first appointment!
  • @ALittleCountry - DH is the same way. Even I forget that I'm pregnant sometimes because I have almost no symptoms. DH didn't even want to announce it to family but I convinced him to be excited and I think sharing the good news will make it feel more real for us.

  • This will be my fourth pregnancy but I had two miscarriages and one baby born.  I also don't feel like it's real. We've been trying for so long it's crazy. I think with my son it felt real after the ultrasound at six weeks but we were super cautious because of the miscarriages.  I think it'll be the same this time around.

  • I feel the same. 1st pregnancy 7 weeks + 6 days. The nausea has made it start to feel more real, but still hasn't hit me, or us yet.
  • I am 5wks2days and I still have to pinch myself. I even tested again Saturday (too much I know) but we have prayed for this miracle everyday and are beyond ecstatic that we are finally pregnant. God is good
