Due Date Changed....Again?

I called the nurse yesterday regarding a question with the genetic testing.  She called me back this morning and left a voicemail saying "You are within the window because you are 15w2d" yet we were told by the doctor that we are 12w3d.  I called back and got the regular nurse, who verified that we are 15w2d and that our doctor has the original due date of May 8th as our date, rather than May 28th like she had told us.

Has anyone else had such a back and forth due date?  I know it's normal for them to change initially or even vary by a few days, but this seems a bit extreme.  I have to admit that I'm worried it will change yet again on our next appointment....

Re: Due Date Changed....Again?

  • That does seem extreme. Could one have been a typo? Can't help but notice May 8 and May 28...they both have an "8" in them, so maybe one person omitted/added the 8 by accident. I would think if you called them, explained the situation, they would figure it out.

Also, any chance you know when you ovulated? That would help you figure it out.

  • Have you had an ultrasound yet? What were you measuring at the last one?
  • I don't know my ovulation time, but my last LMP was August 2nd, so we calculated a May 8th date.  I had some bleeding and went in for an ultrasound in mid October, and they said I was 3 weeks less along than we had thought, and gave us the May 28th date.  Now the nurse looked at the doctor's schedule book and we are put under the May 8th date, and the nurse said they go off my LMP.  I just find it strange why they changed it and then back..

  • Generally, if the ultrasound was at 12 weeks or less and if the measurement difference is a week or more, they'll adjust the due date in their books officially. Every office is a little different though, so it's worth asking in detail. I'd address it now rather than later-- you wouldn't want to get into a situation where test timing is off or they think you're 41/42 weeks along if you're only 38/39 weeks. LMP is not a reliable dating method whereas early ultrasounds are (especially in the 6-8 week zone).

Our first ultrasound was done at 9 weeks based on LMP but only 6.5 based on their calculations. That's why I was concerned about the changes.

I agree that it's worth being concerned over. I'd definitely push the issue then to try to get the May 28th date they gave you as the official date.
  • I would definitely call and ask for clarification. My understanding is they go based off LMP initially but if there's a significant difference +/- one week then they change it accordingly. LMP isn't reliable if you have irregular cycles and maybe you ovulated much later. That's a big difference and like pp mentioned, you don't want to be off on timing for testing, etc.
  • I agree! Even if it is tempting to go with May 8 because you want your baby to be here sooner, please advocate for yourself to determine the correct due date. That's 3 weeks, and a baby born at 37 weeks instead of 40 is at higher risk of plenty of issues. You don't want to be labeled as a late term pregnancy when technically you're not even full term 39 weeks yet (debatable, some say 37, but many doctors go by 39 due to know benefits of longer cookin' within safe guidelines).

  • I was a late ovulator and they kept my LMP EDD on my records and said they will until my 20 week appointment where they will compare past ultrasounds to make a better due date assumption.

So they always think I'm a week and a half further along than I really am but the doctor has noted within my file that I'm not that far along.
  • This does seem odd to me. We had some dating issues at the beginning but only because I ovulated late. My date was changed once from April 26th (based on LMP) to May 2 (based on measurements at my 8 week dating ultrasound). My doc said that they don't adjust from then on out.
