Cycle Cancelled

DH and I saw the FE on Friday after I finished taking the prescribed Clomid tablets and Follistim injection (trying meds and TI). He said there were 5 maturing eggs on the left and 2 maturing eggs on the right (down from 9 on the left and 2 on the right) and everything looked good. He asked that we return on Sunday to measure them again to determine if I would have to take the Ovidrel injection to trigger ovulation or not. Well, at Sunday's appointment they decided that there were 4 eggs on the left that were all over 18mm and could very possibly be released during ovulation. The two on the right were both less than 10mm. So they're worried about the possibility of multiples (like quadruplets). They cancelled the cycle and told us not to have unprotected sex until after my next period.

At this point, I want to say screw it and just go for it anyway. Yes, there is a chance that we could have multiples (but from everything I'm reading that chance is quite small). Have any of you had an experience where you had multiple eggs maturing and the doctors wanted to cancel the cycle? Did you follow the rules or go rogue and what was your outcome?

Yes. Me. Twice. And I didn't cancel. First time didn't work at all and second time I wound up with an ectopic. It's a chance I wanted to take. And that chance is up to you. You have to be ready to either birth four kids or do selective reduction.

I have 4 mature follies and they didn't even hesitate to give us our trigger shot w/ TI. Go for it!! Your doctors office is being too modest in my opinion. Yes there is always a risk, but yours isn't that great. I think they should have allowed you to decide. I've seen people trigger with much more follies than you have.

Exactly. I did an iui with 5 mature follies. And it was my choice. Doctor advised to cancel but I went for it. I didn't want to waste a month taking clomid and nothing happens.

I've also tried with 4 mature follicles. The chances of having multiples is really low. I'd say go for it! My doctor just gave me a warning but said if we wanted to try to do it.

Here's my opinion: when your chances are so low of conceiving (like we all experience here) I feel like you want as many mature follies as possible to give yourself a real shot at this!

I wouldn't risk it on your first cycle. If this was your 3-4 cycle and still not pregnant with 2-4 follicles each time, then go for it. But on your first cycle, I wouldn't risk it. How are the swimmers? Does your husband have any sperm issues?

@bsckgb7 The doctor said the swimmers are good, not great but good. Motility is 43%, morphology is 6%, concentration is 70 million/mL.

I too said screw it and we went ahead with it. I'm now pregnant with quads. While I'm getting excited and have gotten over the shock it is definitely hard not to feel like maybe we shouldn't have done it. However small the chance, there is still a chance and now I am a walking statistic.

Whatever decision you make, please be okay with all the outcomes because really ANYTHING is possible and I am a billboard for that. At first I said yep, I could totally do selective reduction if need be, and when it came down to it I just couldn't pull the trigger and get rid of any of my little heartbeats.

I encourage you to sit down and talk with your significant other and decide what you can and cannot handle and go from there. Only you can answer those questions, but be honest with yourself.

If sperm is the issue (like in my case) our odds of conceiving through IUI are already so slim. I want as many follies as possible!
