IVF: accidental EXTRA Progesterone injection (1ml in AM and PM, should've been AM only) - dangers?

In 2ww of IVF cycle (embryo implanted) 11/10/15. Giving 1ml progesterone each morning and 0.2ml estradiol on Tuesday and Friday evenings.

We accidentally gave 1ml progesterone last night instead of 0.2ml estradiol.

Realized the mistake a couple hours later and give the 0.2ml estradiol.

BUT is there a risk or problem from the extra 1ml of progesterone? We're calling the doctor soon but it may be a while before we hear back on a weekend and we're very worried.

  • *bfp mentionned*
I haven't done PIO (Prometrium instead), but when my blood levels were checked again at around 8 weeks, my progesterone was at the level of someone in their 3rd trimester. I asked my nurse if I should slowly wean myself off instead of stopping completely at 12 weeks, but I was told there's no such thing as too much progesterone. So I'd imagine the worst it'll do is give you more symptoms. Good luck!

  • It sounds like you did the right thing by maintaining your schedule and calling the re. My best guess is that your re will say not to worry and to continue dosing as normal. Levels on the 1cc vary dramatically. I had really high levels on PIO but others have lower. 2cc might give you more side effects but as a one time error, it might not have much impact. GL and keep us updated!
  • Thanks for the thoughtful replies. The RE said to give a half dose progesterone (our is ethyl oleate, not sesame oil) = 0.5ml the following morning (vs. our regular dose of 1.0ml).

They said not to worry, said it couldn't hurt anything.

    What a relief!

    Thanks again.
