Sleep troubles

My son (4.5 months) was a great sleeper until a couple weeks ago when he started waking up about 2-3 times a night, which I thought was pretty bad until this past week when he's been waking up every hour and screaming for a while until I can get him to eat and calm down again. I'm looking for sympathy, suggestions, and books I can read about infant sleep while trying to nurse in the middle of the night—anything!

Re: Sleep troubles

  • I am in the same spot except my DS is now waking every hour almost in the dot and has been for an ENTIRE MONTH! I am totally at my wits end and so exhausted its unbelievable. I know that there is a leap and a sleep regression around now that can last 6 weeks. If my baby still isn't sleeping well after the sixth week, I might give the Ferber method a try as I have literally tried everything else....

  • We are in the same boat most nights. We are back to using the swing. She slept from 7pm to 6am last night! I leave the swing on for the first thirty minutes then off the rest of the night. I also play classical music until I fall asleep. She had been sleeping great in her crib. Now she'll sleep for many an hour in her crib. The swing has helped tremendously.

@mamacarter15 oh no! strength and hugs to you!
  • It's the dreaded four month sleep regression. My little guy has yet to sleep through the night so I think I've forgotten what that is like, but it shouldn't last too long for you.
  • Update!! Baby used to take a nap around adult dinner time and then not fall asleep for the night till about 9:30. We just put him to bed now when he gets tired for that late nap (between 6:30 - 7:30) and it's not great through the night but better!!
  • I'm in your boat! My sweet little boy used to only wake up once a night! Now he is up multiple times a night! I feed him, then he cries.  I hold him, then he cries.  I'm not sure whats wrong! Does the 4 month sleep regression last long??

Yes! That's what we have been dealing with for over 2 months! I'm exhausted! I have been trying to slowly train him back to at least every 2 hours. We just went for his 4 month checkup on monday. He hadn't gained enough weight, so the dr said we need to get his calories up by feeding him cereal and baby food 3 times a day. He said if I can fill him up a little more during the day, he might finally start sleeping better at night. I hope it works!
  • I really hope that helps you. My LO doesn't have trouble gaining weight (he is a big dude) but I may try to give him some solids a few times a day. Maybe that will at least give me some relief at night...fingers crossed
