2 Chemical Pregnancies in a Row

Hi, I am new to this board. I am currently going through a 2nd chemical pregnancy in 3 months. I am completely devastated, as I already have 1 very healthy 23 month old who I got pregnant with and carried with no issue. I am so confused as to why this keeps happening to me. My OBGYN wants me to proactively see a specialist to run some tests to make sure there are no underlying issues and to avoid a possible 3rd chemical pregnancy. She wants us to wait in TTC until all tests are done. Has this happened to anyone else? If so, what is usually the cause of multiple chemical pregnancies? Did you go on to conceive more children later? Thanks in advance for any input!

Hi, I'm sorry you're going through this. I have had a CP and an early miscarriage (some might call it a CP as well, I don't know). I have no kids and so it has been really hard, but I remain pretty hopeful. Losses at less than 5ish weeks are thought to be shockingly common and may not mean much is wrong. That doesn't make it much easier to cope when it's happening though. After my second my doctor had a few possible explanations.
    1) Just bad luck and next pregnancy will be fine.
    2) Low progesterone. I did have low progesterone with the pregnancy. It's not clear if that was the cause of the mc or just the first symptom (impossible to know this), so I'm supposed to call doctor immediately next time to see if supplements would be appropriate.
    3) Poor uterine lining. I did not wait a cycle after the first CP so it's possible that I didn't have sufficient lining built up for the next one. This sucks but it has an easy fix which is waiting a couple months to try again. I was also told to take baby aspirin when I start TTC again to promote good blood flow which can help lining.
    4) Something more serious. Uterine abnormality (like a septum) is a possibility (can prevent proper implantation) - but since you already had a normal pg I think this would be less likely for you. I chose not to have more testing at this point. If I have a third loss I will do it, but hopefully I don't get there.

I am currently waiting for AF before we try again so can't say what the outcome of any of this will be. Best wishes to you.

@mrsdoench84 I'm sorry for your losses. I haven't been through what you're going through (I had a missed mc .... found out at 8 weeks). One thing I've read is that repeat CP can be due to low progesterone. Some docs will do a progesterone test during a normal cycle to see what your prog level is about 7 days after O. Something to think about. Also, if you temp and chart, a short luteal phase can be a sign of low progesterone.

@cjt121413 thank you for your reply. I am so sorry for your loss as well. I am definitely going to speak with my dr re: progesterone and hormones being an issue. It seems to be the most common cause besides bad luck. I do temp & chart and it seems I ovulate later in my cycle. Something I'll be mentioning as well. Here's to hoping we all get our answers soon. Best wishes!
