Pregnancy Pillow Advice

So there's about a million different types of pregnancy pillows out there.  I'm a FTM and am having real trouble sleeping at night- exclusive stomach sleeper and it's just now becoming uncomfortable at 18.5 weeks.  Any experienced moms have recommendations for what types of pillows they liked or DIDN'T like?  I still love to snuggle my husband at night (for the time being) so I'd prefer one that isn't GIGANTIC but if it works... I'm willing to try about anything.... also I do plan on breastfeeding and I see that some are marketed for that as well... any thoughts?  Thanks ladies!

Re: Pregnancy Pillow Advice

  • I was sleeping with two body pillows, one in front under my legs and the other behind me. That didn't quite work. DH got me the Boppy pregnancy pillow and I'm in love with it. It has three parts that you can stick together anyway you want. The curved leg piece works from back and front. The belly piece is the perfect amount of support. I also use the pillow as a laptop pad for working in bed. the only drawback is the velcro that sticks the pieces together. It occasionally gets separated and scratches or makes noises at night. I wish it was held with snaps.

  • I had a huge U-shaped pillow that I borrowed from my neighbor last pregnancy. It worked great, but literally took up almost the entire bed and DH hated it. This time around I just bought a $12 body pillow from Walmart. While I still have to use an additional pillow for my head, it makes me comfortable enough just fine and for WAY less money than the Snoogle I originally wanted to purchase. Hopefully it will do the job until the end. DH still complains about how big it is...every.single.night...and I want to punch him for that, but I just know it isn't remotely close to the size of what I could buy, so I try to ignore his complaining.

  • I had a Snoogle body pillow and I hated it.  The part that curved around the head wasn't comfortable, and it all around didn't work for me.  Nowadays I create a little nest of regular pillows around me, and it works better.  Usually one behind my back, one for between my knees, and one to "hug" with my arms is most comfortable.

  • I am also a former belly sleeper and it takes me forever to get comfortable at night. I have a Snoogle but as PP said, I don't like the top part under my head. I also didn't like the fabric on the original cover and ended up buying a Jersey cover. After my big investment I feel obligated to use it, and do, when I can get it positioned just right. The rest of the time I sandwich myself between two regular pillows for belly and back support, with my another pillow under my head and a special memory foam leg support (I love this thing!) between my legs. There is no snuggling DH once I'm in so any closeness needs to take place before I'm in my nest.

  • I also have the Boppy pregnancy pillow (not the multi-parts one, the regular one) and I love it. I like that it doesn't go all the way around so I don't take up all the room in our queen-size bed. I don't mind switching it to the other side when I roll over, I just take it with me as I roll. I do still put a very soft, small pillow behind my lower back for back support as well. The whole thing is easily machine washable as well, either just the removable cover or the pillow itself as well.
  • With Dd I had a couple of body pillows that really did helpe sleep. Thus time around they aren't cutting it. I ended up buying a few cheap ones from Target and they have been amazing. As I get bigger I might change my mind but so far so good.

  • I love my bumpnest pillow. They're pricey...but after 30 weeks, I no longer cared how much I had spent on it.
