Weight Loss??

Has anyone else experienced a little bit of weight loss in their first trimester? I am 9 w 3 d today and have lost about 4 lbs since my doctors appt 3 weeks ago. I started out a little over weight so I'm not too concerned about it. Just kinda weird. I also feel like I've been eating like a cow because of how hungry I get so quickly.

Re: Weight Loss??

  • I lost about 2 lbs early on, but then gained it back. Especially I f you've had morning sickness, I don't think that's uncommon.

  • I lost weight with my 2nd, but it was because I was constantly puking, lol
  • it's fairly normal if you are having MS or food aversions. Also your body is working really really hard right now. I wouldn't worry too much about it if you are at least eating generally and especially if you were a bit overweight before. If you keep losing a lot maybe talk to your doctor.
  • I've lost about 7 lbs but was also a bit overweight to begin with. I mentioned it to my doctor and she she wasnt concerned yet, just said don't worry about nutrition, eat whatever you can get down and take your prenatal for now, worry about nutrition once you aren't puking so much.
  • Totally normal. If you really are overweight the doc won't want you to gain the 25-35 lbs anyways. Plus our metabolizism is changing so it's gonna be a balancing act!

I've lost 9 this time so far and I lost 15 in my first tri with #1. Dr will tell you if they're worried
  • Yea I've lost 2 lbs so far (found out at first appointment today) I'm tiny though so need to try not to lose anymore :( think its just because I've been feeling so sick haven't eaten as much as usual.
  • I fluctuate a 1lb up and down from my original weight--which is like 8lbs over my wedding weight...stupid honeymoon! I am so jealous of you ladies who have lost weight.  I wouldn't worry about it though unless your doctor is concerned :)

  • Yep. I'm a bit overweight and have lost 3 pounds so far (10 weeks Wednesday). I don't have MS and have been ravenously hungry. I'm constantly eating now.
  • Same here! I have had no MS. The closest I've had is that around 3 or 4 am I wake sooooo hungry I feel like I'm going to get sick. Trying to eat again right before bed (I know usually not smart) but it helped last night/this morning.
  • I've lost 5lbs due to nausea and little appetite. It will come back thought ;)

Ditto, I'm down 10 pounds but no one seems too concerned about it.

  • Yup. Down about four still. :) no worries though, dr says totally normal as pps said.
  • I lost a few with both my pregnancies. It's normal even if you're eating the same amount since your body requires a couple hundred extra calories. Don't worry, you'll gain it back soon ;)

  • I've lost 10 pounds.  My drs were a little worried so that's part of why I got meds to help with the throwing up.
DS 9/2/13 was a BFP from an IUI!
Triplets due 6/29/16 also from an IUI!

  • I am 8 weeks and as of last Friday I had lost 10+ pounds since I was last at the OB (August for regular checkup).  I haven't had any morning sickness and few food aversions.  My NP told me I was loosing weight because the one food aversion I have had is to Dr. Peppers and I used to drink several a day and now I only drink water and tea.  Also my body is adjusting to baby getting any extra nutrients that I have so it is not storing up extras like it usually does.

  • Yep.  I'm down 6 pounds, overweight but closer to the normal weight than the middle to high end of overweight. I'm eating what I can, somedays I'm lucky to eat 500 calories, other days I eat probably 3000 calories.  Dr said eat what I can, and hopefully second try I'll get an appetite back and can eat more.  On the days when I struggle to eat I try to eat really high calorie foods- cheese, protein shake, just so i know I'm at least getting semi-decent calories in.

^^wss about doc telling you if they're worried. Exactly. Mine said it's not unusual to lose some weight in the first tri. That said, I'm jealous of all you ladies who are actually down a few pounds! I feel...large. I was worried I'm gaining too quickly. Doc said no concerns at this point, that they watch the trend. So, not to worry. They're paying attention.

  • I lost a couple pounds around 4-5 weeks although I had minimal MS. I was constantly thirsty so drank tons of water and only wanted to eat things with high water content (e.g., watermelon, salads). I think that plus not drinking wine every night took off a couple pounds. I'm sure I'll gain it back pretty soon though - and then some!

But like others said - not to worry in your first tri - your doc will let you know if it's a problem.

  • I started out pregnancy small and I've lost 5 lbs as of today and my doctor is monitoring me more. He's monitoring me more though because I've had TERRIBLE m/s. I've had to go to the doctor on 3 separate occasions for an IV. He did say if I wasn't so sick and didn't have previous mc he wouldn't be as worried because some weight loss can be normal! Good luck!
  • I've lost around 6 or 7 pound this time.  Last time the same thing happened.  I actually gained zero pounds during pregnancy.  The day I delivered I weighed exactly the same amount as when I conceived.  I actually was down 21 pounds when I got home from the hospital.  My baby was totally on track for weight and I was healthy.  I was also overweight when I started.  I think it's totally normal.

  • I've lost 10 so far and I'm 10 weeks. I haven't been trying but I've been wanting to eat little bits all day combined with general nausea and my husband and I have been trying to exercise more. If it hasn't been a rapid weight loss, which would be a warning sign for anybody, it shouldn't be a problem. Well gain it back anyways!
  • I'm a little on the plus size and have lost 12 pounds so far because of extreme morning sickness. Doctor says as long as it's not more than 20 I shouldn't worry.
