Playing music for baby?

When we were pregnant with our dd, I bought this fancy belt thing you can wear on your belly with speakers so you can hook up your phone or ipod and play music to the baby.
I'm not fabulous about always remembering to do it, but I plan to do it again this time (once baby can hear noises, 16ish weeks?)
Anyone else planning on playing some tunes for your fetus? ;)
This is the one I have, but I know you don't need a belt to play music, just thought I would share.

  • You bet! I have a shuffle loaded with classical music and bought some belly buds. They attach to the shuffle like headphones, but have two buds that stick to your belly.

  • DH is already putting on classical music whenever we're not watching TV, even though I know baby can't hear yet. I have a feeling he's going to drive me increasingly nuts until June :-)
  • Is it thought to be soothing? Or stimulating? Just curious.

  • I believe it's good for their brain development. Obviously not a necessity, but I like to think the baby finds it soothing as well.

  • Hi I am a newborn photographer. I work with a lot of fussy babies that just can't settle down for whatever reasons. I've had at least 3 clients take out their I pods in desperation and play a lullaby or classical music during the shoot, and the baby will snuggle right in. Then they tell me this is music they listened to while pregnant. It's fascinating to watch.

  • I like the idea- at low volume- and will definitely look into it. I'm a music lover so I'd love to share that with my LO. I also love how the baby gets familiar with the sound of your and your partners voice before birth. I'm just in awe of the whole thing.
  • I prefer to go the route of just listening to loud music all the time myself. Baby can hear what I hear. I would feel weird and kind of ridiculous strapping speakers to my belly.

There was a particular song I was obsessed with my last pregnancy that I would constantly blast in the car and sing along to on my way to midwife appointments. It was also the first song I ever noticed my daughter show a preference towards. Maybe a coincidence but that was pretty cool.
