TMI-ish... Itching/Swelling/discharge

This is my second pregnancy, but with my first, I never thinned out/dilated/baby never dropped. I ended up having a scheduled c-section. This time around I have a weird feeling things will be different. About 4 days ago, my vagina got swollen, red, and it was painful/kind of itchy. I've tried to read up on this and have come across a couple of things.. Either it's a yeast infection, or it has to do with labor (which I've never experienced). I have an increase in discharge, and while the swelling has gone down, I still have pain/discomfort. Is this a sign of labor? I'm 34 weeks tomorrow but have measured ahead almost every appt by 1-2 weeks. I have an appt this week, I was just hoping this would clear up by now.

  • Sounds like a beginning stage of a yeast infection, which often you get when you have increased discharge. Call your md and ask for an appt to get it checked out.

  • That's a question for your doc. While it could be labor related it could also be an infection and its important to get that checked out. Dont want to let that stuff go :-\ good luck.
  • Either way you need to get checked out. Even at 35/36 weeks unless you have a medical issue like GD or chronic hypertension most docs don't want you to go into labor that early if you can avoid it. And as pp said, you'll want to treat a yeast infection. A yeast infection won't harm the baby (provided you don't deliver with an active infection) but nobody has time for that nonsense, especially third trimester pregnant women.
  • It could also be something you need an antibiotic for.  I got a bacterial infection with DD#1 and had to get treated. Ask you Dr 1st before you self treat.  You don't want to use anything that may not be approved for you to use.

I'm 35 weeks now and have had an increase in discharge too, it makes me feel so gross (mostly because it's gets kinda itchy!) I was at the Dr yesterday and it turns out (for me at least) the increase in thin white almost frothy discharge was from the increase in estrogen in our body at this stage. The itching was (more or less) simply irritation, "heat rash" if you will, and the increase blood flow is what made it seem like I could feel every little thing and look a little swollen.. which made it itch worse! :anguished: I thought for sure it was a yeast infection or BV or... something, but no, for my case Dr said it was that simple. So.. for what it's worth
