Since we have some new members (hi there) I thought it might be fun to do a GTKY (getting to know you) Tell us 5 things about you, they can be anything! Silly, strange, serious or fun.
1. I don't think I could live life without potatoes. I must have some russian or irish blood that passed down potato DNA into my genetic blueprint! I can make potatoes in a million different ways and sweet potatoes are good, but don't really hit the spot 100%
2. My top destination on my travel bucket list that I want to go to next is the maldives, but hubby isn't really interested in going because it's on the other side of the world. I would settle for going to bora bora again instead, it is my all time favorite destination I have ever been to.
3. I get extremely irritated in public places when people walk really slowly and clog up the walkway/path so I can't get past them. I wish we had a fast lane on sidewalks and such. It makes me insane when a group of people walking together just stop in the middle of wherever and leave no room to pass them and are totally unaware that they are doing that.
4. Slowly over the years I have switch to being fragrance free in everything I use, and my sensitivity to smell has increased a million fold because of this. This also means that when I come in contact with someone wearing way to much perfume I get sick from being in proximity to it, I have an instantaneous reaction where I feel horrible. I have to beg my sister not to wear perfume around me.
5. I love my DH very much, and he said it best when he describe us as life partners. But....I think my cat is my soul mate, at least my spirit animal/animal soul mate.
1. I literally have my phone no more than 6 inches away from me at all times. No, it's not because I am a very important person. It is because I have an addiction. When I'm not scrolling the bump, I am on Facebook (which I recently picked back up), Instagram, Pinterest or shopping on Amazon.
2. I had bariatric surgery almost 3 years ago and am ashamed that I am slowly gaining back weight.
3. I adore spending days upon days 'stuck' inside my house cleaning, crafting and watching tv (while scrolling my phone of course). I can't wait for a SNOW DAY!
4. I am a juggler/mutlitasker. I perform best when I am pushed to my limits which probably makes me good at my career.
5. I recently broke up with my childhood best friend. We've been through ups and downs since we were 10 years old and I just finally realized she has been using me for over 20 years. It's really hard to admit when you get nothing back from a relationship. This has been tougher than breaking up with any boy but I know it is for the best.
**child mentioned** Me(38)PCOS/Hypothyroid DH(43)Low T/ED MMC at 10 weeks 03/2011 DD born 01/2012 TTC #2 since 04/2014 BFP 8/26/2016
@happyktmom I can relate to every single one of those (I haven't had surgery but my weight is slowly creeping again.) I recently broke up with a BFF as well, it was one of the hardest things I ever went through but now that it is in the past I realize it was for the best. It hurt like hell when it was going on though. I delete FB and the TB off my phone periodically so that I will put my figgen phone down.
1. I hate sweets. I'm not sure when I lost my sweet tooth, but I can keep candy in the house for years and not touch it. Rarely, I will get a craving, so my husband always says that I hate sweets, except for when I don't.
2. I've run 5 half marathons and one full marathon. Right now I'm being a lazy ass and I haven't really run since spring.....but I enjoy it! I also like snowboarding and just being active in general.
3. I love cats. I have two, Bella and Eileen and they're my little clowns. I think if I wasn't married, I could easily be a crazy cat lady. I even made DH into a cat lover.
4. I met DH on the Internet. I suppose this is becoming more and more common. Internet dating FTW! After I recovered from my divorce, I wasn't sure how I was going to go about meeting eligible bachelors my age. The last time I dated was in my early 20's. So, I signed up on a popular dating site, met lots of interesting guys, made some mistakes, learned what I wanted and didn't want, had the courage to ditch a couple long term boyfriends and finally found DH....I never knew my life could be this amazing.
5. I have the worst attention span ever. I was labeled in elementary school as having ADD and was medicated. Eventually I "outgrew it", but then it started to become a problem again when I started college. It took years for me to figure out how to work with it. My grades weren't so hot with my first bachelors degree, but 10 years later I had figured out how to cope and work around it and graduated nursing school with a 3.9. I still struggle, but have learned many coping mechanisms to make it work for me. It also probably works to my advantage in my career because I can quickly shift my attention when I need to.

1. I used to climb mountains in what I refer to as my former life, which is really my life before I had to get a serious job that wouldn't let me take months off to go climbing anymore. Sometimes I miss it but I also really like warm showers and not being cold so there is also that.
2. I am about to celebrate my 3rd wedding anniversary with my husband. Its crazy how fast the last 3 years have gone by but I'm so happy we found each other and have been making it work. He is THE best.
3. I like to drink wine and buy things off Amazon at night. I think my husband just thinks I'm playing on my phone. HA ha ha.
4. I don't like my mother-in-law but am trying very hard to make it work because you know... family
@createillumination I'm the EXACT same way with slow walkers and people that just stop. Some people need way more situational awareness.....
@happyktmom I'm not sure what I'd do if my phone wasn't with me at all times. I'm constantly on it, probably to a fault. I've also had to break up with a friend before. It's so hard but always for the best. You can't keep toxic people in your life. I have one right now that I'm trying to ditch, but she can be super clingy (I was relieved when she recently got a job in Montana and had to move). She's always very negative and is always complaining about how much her life sucks, when in reality she's kind of placed herself in the situation and has full control of it, she just prefers to play the victim. I totally get it.

1. I'm a graphic designer but I also have a degree in zoology and was a zookeeper at Busch Gardens right after college.
2. Someday I would love to draw and paint for a living.
3. I live in Florida but I'm fluorescent white and can't handle the sun at all.
4. My husband is from Ireland. And he's very handsome.
5. I hope that I will love my children as much as I love my cats. (I know how weird that sounds.)

@carrieandroy ... I would also love to draw and paint for a living! I used to spend so much time in the art room in high school and college, but then life sucks up all your free time.
1. I'm a lefty
2. I spent 7 months living and meditating at a Buddhist temple a few years ago and it has greatly changed the way I view the world
3. I am crazy about all kinds of dogs and have a shitzu. When my neighbors are walking their dogs I have to remind myself to talk to the owner, not the dog.
4. I'm a nerd about food as medicine and I am totally fascinated by how there are specific food prescriptions for specific ailments.
@JeNYCeee, you lived at a Buddhist temple for 7 months??? It would be so amazing to get away from all the stress and nonsense of life for that long. (Although I did see a monk on his iPhone when I was in Peru. I imagined that he was looking at Ryan Gosling "hey girl" memes.) Aside from loving art, my dream of drawing and painting for a living is also about getting away from clients, deadlines, demands, stress, etc, so there is something very appealing about living with monks for a while.

1- my husband and I met online. It will be 10 years in February. Today is 8 years since we got engaged and we've been married for 6. Guess that Internet thing does work.
2- I have a serious shopping addiction. But I switched to shopping with coupons so now I'm always on the hunt for a good deal/ sale. I may or may not have about 10 bottles of shampoo/conditioner that I bought for practically nothing.
3- I have a beautiful gsd mix names Freya who I joke will be my only daughter. Although I am trying to convince hubby if I'm not KU by my next birthday I am getting a pure gsd. Gsd= German shepherd dog.
4- I love where I live (90 miles or so outside NYC) but also hate being so far away from things
5- I've been doing Ww for about 7 months and am down 18 lbs. I keep hoping it helps in the getting KU.
1) I also met my DH online on the site Plenty of Fish. It's a free site, so I had to wade through a LOT of weirdos, but there he was. We've been married a little over 3 years.
2) My DD is a Clomid baby and I thought THAT took a long time (7 months). Wow, was I naive...
3) I have a private pilot's license, but I haven't flown in years. It's on my busket list to become current again.
4) I love baseball! I've been to all but 3 major league baseball stadiums.
5) As of today, I've lost 47 pounds and am AT my goal weight for IVF. Nurse consult tomorrow, so I'm super happy!!!
*** Child & current pregnancy mentioned ***
Me - 41 (PCOS), Hubby - 43 (healthy)
7/2013 - Sweet baby girl born (Clomid + TI)
3/2014 - TTC #2, return to RE 7/2014
12/2015: IVF #1 transferred two great looking embryos - BFP!
First ultrasound: TWO beautiful little heartbeats!!
Harmony: negative; level 2: babies look great and are boy/girl!
Cool reading about everyone and seeing what people have in common! I just posted my intro, but here's my 5
1. I'm a lefty. @jeNYCeee I love that you put that first too! It's always my go to "something unique about me".
2. Met my husband online. Nice to see that we're in good company.
3. My dad has been married for nearly 20 years, but I still struggle to figure out my relationship with my stepmom and stepsisters.
4. I love the concept of minimalist living and try to be careful about adding "stuff" to the house.
5. Somewhat related to #4...I love a clean house, so why am I usually so lazy about cleaning?! If we ever have a baby I don't know where all the clean clothes are going to get thrown while waiting to be folded. For now they live on the foldout in our 2nd bedroom.
@emsmama15 - that is awesome! Good-luck at your consult tomorrow.
1. I am fanatic about soccer - playing and as a supporter. I travel decent distances to see matches (and to play since i live in the middle of nowhere).
2. I drive two hours (one way) to buy groceries. I live in a pretty remote small mountain community (no stores or services). There is a very small town an hour a way, but for a city with stores etc its about a two hours drive.
3. I am kitty person, also. We have two kitties that we love to death. And @CarrieandRoy your comment doesn't seem weird at all! I can totally relate. Sometimes i wonder if a baby will be as cuddly - since s/he won't be furry soft (well hopefully not!)
4. My partner and i have been together for about 16 ish years. Can you tell i am not very into tracking anniversaries? My partner is better at that and would probably know more exactly- lol.
5. I can hike forever through the mountains, but put me in a store or mall and my legs turn to lead.
Me (42) w/ partner for 16+ years
TTC #1: 11/2012 - 9/2013; 6/2014 - present
Follistim + TI (3x): All BFNs
Follistim + IUI (1x): BFN
IVF #1: 17 retrieved,15 fertilized, Day 3: 15, Day 5/6: 3 biopsied
@emsmama15 - YAY! So glad you reached your target weight just in time to start IVF! So proud of you!!!
1. I grew up in a log cabin in the middle of the woods in the middle of Wisconsin. The cabin was rustic and didn't have running water (my dad built it). Yep, my childhood was spent pumping water from an outside well and heating water on the stove to take a bath in a cold metal tub. But since I grew up that way, I didn't think it was that strange and I loved adventuring outside in the woods. But I do have to say that I'm now in love with hot showers.
2. I've always wanted to be an author. Seriously, since like the age of 5. I wrote TONS of stories when I was a kid and typed a 40-page story when I was 10. I now have several novels in various stages of completion but can't seem to get to the final polished stage (life gets in the way, I grow bored of a story and move on to something else, I'm a perfectionist so nothing is ever "done"). I did win $500 once from a short story competition once and also published my own raw dessert cookbook (which is still for sale on Amazon if anyone is interested :-)
3. I'm a sleep-aholic. I struggle to fall asleep (I get my energy surge at night) and then I struggle to wake up. Since I'm self-employed and work in the afternoon/evenings, I usually sleep in until at least 9:30am, sometimes 11am! And I love naps. I can easily spend a Sunday afternoon napping away. I burn up a lot of energy doing physical activity (I'm an aerial dancer) so my excuse is that I need a lot of sleep to recover. My H only needs 5-6 hrs a night whereas I need around 9-10 hrs a night. I know who is going to be doing the early morning baby care!!
4. I've never really drank alcohol. I've had some health problems that makes me scared of it. I've known some close people who almost died from alcoholism (or had major problems due to it). And I also get a "natural high" when around friends so don't feel like I need it (people often ask me at parties, "are you drunk?" because I get kind of hyper and silly when I'm having a good time). I did try a sip of wine once but that was it. And I felt sick for days afterwards (I have a very sensitive body). So I just don't feel like I need it or want it. But don't worry, I don't judge those who drink (and H likes to have a drink from time to time and I don't mind).
5. I get really excited about salad. I just love going to salad bars, making big salads, eating salads. A big bowl of crisp, organic veggies and I'm drooling. I like sugar snap peas more than any sweet food. They are so delicious!! My friends think I'm a bit strange...
ME: 36 (PCOS), DH: excellent SA NTNP since 11/12, actively trying since 8/14

All of this is so incredibly cool- you are all amazing people! I too met my DH online 9 years ago when internet dating was just starting to be acceptable, and it is our anniversary of the day we met this sunday (I count that one as more important then our wedding anniversary for some reason.)
For the ladies who are on the incredible weight loss journey congrats emsmama15 & Jenniferk08! I have been mentally preparing to get myself back on the train, I lost 27lbs a couple of years ago but in the last year things have been creeping up again.
dolphin012 2 hours, 2 hours! Holy batman I would go crazy, but I hate driving for longer then 10minutes.
CarrieandRoyI'm drying to know is being a zookeeper as glamorous and exotic as it sounds? That's a great conversation starter!
jilligan14 I'd love to check out your raw dessert cookbook on amazon, I make these date and coco truffles that are raw and supper yummy but my imagination stops there.
I love grocery shopping, and love going up and down every aisle. It's one of my earliest memories with my mom trying to get the discount meats and breads early in the morning. I do not know how @dolphin12 does it.. I go at least 2-3 times a week. The Fresh Market opened up less than a mile away and I love going and come up with silly excuses to go (last night it was the 2.99 organic / antibiotic free chicken breast). I am crazy with numbers and love looking at sale ads to find the best deals.
I have extreme anxiety issues, and I'm working really hard and keeping them in check. Today I lost and had to come home half day after lunch because I got physically sick. Surprisingly, I don't feel anxiety about being pregnant, it's more getting pregnant. Also, having twins causes early anxiety because I think I will need a new car because how are the two dogs (one gets carsick), one cat, two babies, and two adults going to fit in my current car.... I am able to laugh at this random anxiety.
I had gastric sleeve surgery in January 2014 and lost over 100lbs. I'm up a few lbs due to infertility meds, but I think I'm doing okay. I'm trying to not let it bother me. I get envious of those who had a similar surgery and got pregnant "just like that"...
I'm a huge Walt Disney World fantatic. It's my happy place. I always wanted to bring home a disney souvenir (baby). If this first IVF works, I'll be pregnant while at WDW this March.. I'm already stalking pinterest/etsy for cute pregnancy-disney t-shirts.
Saturday is my 38th birthday and my 6th anniversary. My husband and had a very rough go of things a few years ago, and I am amazed at how strong our marriage and relationship has become. Infertility has made us stronger and we communicate better than we ever had before once we started really TTGP. I know it stresses a lot of relationships out, but I've never felt so good in my marriage and feel we really are part of a team. Not saying infertility is great, but it makes me know we are both in it for the good times and bad times. I'm excited for when we are able to have a child together.
@createillumination, zookeeping isn't glamorous at all, but it is exotic! And I have a lot of stories. Definitely a conversation starter.
There are so many other things in everyone's posts that I want to comment on, but it would take ages!

@Piperella: I had terrible anxiety for a long time. It sucks and I still get it occasionally. I used to be on medication for it, but after my divorce I went through counseling and that really helped me, I feel lucky that I don't have to deal with it as much anymore (though there are still times I wish I still had my medication). Just wanted to send you a virtual hug, I know how hard it is. I'm glad you can laugh at it sometimes.

createillumination... you and I are potato buddies! Tater tots with pulled pork and a sprinkle of cheese... numnumnum!
Piperella... Disney is my happy place too! We are definitely ready for babies
jilligan14... There is nothing more exciting than a salad bar! Give me a handful of beets on my salad and I'm a happy camper!
agriffin92013... I'm older than my DH too! He's 31 to my 37. I think some people are born 'old souls' and others are 'young at heart'. When we find each other it's magic!
Alright, I'll give it a go:
1. I'm a teacher. When I taught kindergarten I was afraid I'd be giving too much to my class and not have enough when I got home to give my own kids what they needed. I've finally begin to find balance between work and home. (Hopefully that continues when Baby comes!)
2. I have no rhythm. None. Not even a little.
3. I'm a pet lover and currently share my home with a green-cheeked conure and a 15 year old kitty.
4. I have a fear of (decorator) commitment- I never decorated my apartments or house until my husband moved in with me. My walls were bare for years as I tried to commit to a theme or idea.
5. Hiking and the outdoors is a passion of mine that I share with my husband. We were engaged in Glacier NP, married at Yosemite, and honeymooned in Utah. We really hope to have a good natured kiddo that enjoys the same!
I'm up with insomnia, feeling left-over stress from a big day and from AF showing up. So I'll give this a go too. It's been so fun reading everyone's!
1. Add me to the "met DH online" bunch! We'll celebrate our third anniversary Thanksgiving week. I can't believe it's only/already been 3 years!
2. I grew up in California and miss it desperately, even though I love my life here. There's just a part of me that comes to life when I am there that seems to hibernate when I'm not. I think place is really important to me.
3. I prefer jelly bellies, orange slices, and gummy bears to chocolate. (Gasp!)
4. My childhood dream was to get married at Yosemite, @TTamTamTam ! But being married at the beach was pretty great too.
5. I love to travel, but my DH doesn't get much time off. I look forward to the day when we can take long road trips and international trips. I miss those adventures and look forward to sharing them with him--and our kids--someday.
@Sporty1216, I'm so not okay with you choosing gummy-type candy over
chocolate. I feel like chocolate will hear you and abandon all of us.

@dolphin012 - I'm totally the same about being able to hike in the woods for hours upon hours but put me in a mall and I get instantly lethargic and dehydrated!
@emsmama15 and @createillumination - my dessert book is called "Desserts in the Raw". I published it years ago but still sell a copy here and there. Most of the desserts are sweetened with dates, honey or stevia. And everything is vegan, gluten-free and raw.

Wow! I'm loving hearing these tidbits! Even the "real" stuff, that's what we need so we can relate to each other. So glad so many ladies are crazy for greens...I'm also tease for eating rabbit food all the time.
@carrieandroy - about the meditation, I hear you. I had a stressful job and then my lease was up and I went through a bad breakup and decided to hightail it out of NYC in 2011 (I did commute to NYC once a week to see a few clients since I was contracting, truth be told) but it was just one of those "Enough!" moments and I don't regret it, luckily!
@jilligan14 - that is the coolest sounding upbringing, I dream of a rustic life like that but maybe you didn't view it as romantic as a kid. I grew up in MN so I do know that must have been challenging in the winter.
@JeNYCeee, for some reason I assumed the Buddhist temple was in Nepal or something. But I guess they have them all over.

1. I met my wife in a seedy bar. And I'm the one who hit on her. I had never before in my life picked up someone in a bar, and have never really spent that much time in bars, period, but I was dressed up like Sandy at the end of Grease (trashy tight clothes) and felt flirty.
2. I love hiking. I'm way out of shape after my series of medicated IUIs (letrozole makes my joints ache, so I stopped going to the gym), but yesterday I managed to (slowly and carefully) hike a challenging and steep 5 miles (up and down a mountain), without doing any major damage to my knees! So I'm really pleased with my body.
3. I like to cook, but I don't like cleaning the kitchen. I should be cooking now, but I have to clean the kitchen before I start. So, I'm online....
4. A few years back, I got really sick with some unknown gastro issue (deemed IBS), and I couldn't eat without severe pain. I lost 40 pounds in 6 weeks, which is way too fast. Everyone thought I looked great! It brought me down from obese to just a bit overweight. I slowly slowly got better (I had to eat a very limited diet, no wheat or dairy or anything good). Somehow, I healed, and gained the weight back. I wish nobody had ever complimented me on the weight loss, because it leaves me wondering-- do they think I look bad now that I'm healed?
5. I grew up pretty religious, in a Methodist church. When I came out as gay as a teenager, I was encouraged to stop attending the youth group, because they were afraid I'd molest the younger girls (just because I was gay). At the same time, my mother told me I should never have kids, because it's not right for kids to have gay parents. I tried not to let this hurt me, but of course, it did. This has a lot to do with why I waited so long to start a family-- I just didn't think I could. Now, I'm doing everything I can. And I'm delighted that I found an affirming and welcoming Methodist church, that's brought me back to the religion I grew up with, and which has brought me a lot of comfort as we struggle with getting pregnant.
Me- 39 (turning 40 in April), TTC for the first time ever (since Jan 2015), low ovarian reserve
Married 3/14/14 to my wonderful wife, but her sperm count is rather low
TTC with frozen donor sperm and science
7 IUIs, 7 BFNs. 2 IVF attempts, both cancelled and converted to IUI, both BFNs. Decided that my tired old ovaries are ready to retire. @KLake42 You are amazing and I know you and your wife will be fantastic parents. I'm sorry you had such hurtful things said to you. Some of the best parents I know are gay. I'm glad you were able to find a warm, welcoming religious community.
Side note: When I was in college, I did a research paper (meta analysis) on children raised by gay parents and the evidence is pretty overwhelming that there is no difference in emotional or intelligence outcomes in children raised by gay parents vs. straight parents. I'm sure you didn't need me to tell you that, but it was one of the most interesting papers I ever wrote.
Best of luck to you and your wife

Re: GTKY 5 things about you
