Cyst or twins?!?!?

My DH and I went for our first ultrasound, 6 weeks along. My Dr quickly found our little nugget but the found another area in my uterus. Their machines are not very strong and she is not sure if it's a cyst or another baby. She couldn't get a steady picture!

One has this ever happened to anyone else? Was it twins?

Also anyone else have a cyst? Do you know if they just dissolve. I was so floored with the twin comment I never asked

  • I'm also surprised the doctor would be able to identify one baby...but not a second (if there was one)...is he sending you for a follow up with better imaging?

i know many cysts to be benign, come and go, or stick around.
Fibroids stick around and need to be watched.

I would be looking into getting another scan.

  • I have never heard of this happening before. Do you have a follow-up scan scheduled?

  • Interesting that they couldn't tell the difference. Are they sending you for a follow up?
I had a cyst with my first pregnancy. I was told it was not a problem and actually made a more "hospitable environment" for the baby in the word of the sonographer. It shrunk and disappeared after I had her. I didn't have any, or wasn't told about them with my son.

  • I had a cyst with my first, and it dissolved on its own before my next ultrasound. It was nothing to worry about

  • That is bonkers. What a strange situation to be in! So are you going for a follow up? I am so curious to see the actual scan and understand why she couldn't tell!

    Keep us posted for sure!

  • This happened to my cousin too. It turned out to be a cyst and it caused bleeding.

  • I have an appointment at a radiology center which more hi-tech machines on the 11th. I'll be 8 weeks then.

She made it seem like it's prob just a cyst but since I am only 6 weeks that it is possible twins...

I will def let you all know what happens in two but you better believe it's going to be the longest 2 weeks of my life
  • I'm 6 weeks and 4 days, the doc knew for sure it was twins!

My second area she saw was farther away on the screen I think but she was not getting a clear shot. Hence the following up in 2 weeks
  • @WinniethePoohsPants I'm not horribly concerned this practice delivered 5 of my niece's and nephews and are highly recommended. I really think it's just bc the machines are not as high tech as a radiology center and while she is leaning towards cyst since I am so early she said better be safe and go for a follow up. So either I'll know the size of the cyst then or if that was another sac.

I'll be 8 weeks then so there is way more baby to see
  • I was more concerned about the cyst part thank you ladies for giving me more info on your experiences
  • Oh boy, that's gonna be a long two weeks of waiting!  Please keep us updated!

With my first scan they found my baby and then a cyst.
If it's a cyst you'll under go more scans than usual to see if the cyst is growing.

If it's not growing they will leave it and it may go away during pregnancy or after you have the baby.

If it's growing you may need to have it removed later in your pregnancy.

This is up to you though you have weight up the pros and cons
  • I will def update on the 11th after my appointment

    @declove10 when is your appointment?

@shandi how's everything going for you?
  • I have PCOS so I knew I had little cysts but I was a little shocked to have seen the size of mine. It's 7cm, I've decided that if it grows I will have it removed.

I had a friend who had a 20cm cyst and it was just keyhole operation.

I was reading a story about a woman who left her's because she didn't want to risk the operation but then her ovary got twisted because of the cyst and then she had to get a operation where they're had to remove her ovary.
  • @Shandii omg no way I'll remove it i want my ovaries
  • Yeah that's why I said you have to weight up the pros and cons if you need a operation. That's a story from one side but there were a few where the cyst just went away.
  • **** Update ****

I had the ultrasound tonight and there is one Lil baby in there doing well! I'm 8 weeks but since it was just a tech I have to wait till next Wednesday for my Dr to go over any info about cyst or no cyst. But we heard the heartbeat it was 168... absolutely the most amazing thing!
  • Congrats! Are you relieved that it's one baby, or secretly a little disappointed? (It's ok not to answer!)
  • Congratulations on hearing a healthy HB! I hope all goes well with the cyst/no cyst issue.

  • @june2016baby my hubby was a little disappointed me on the other hand relieved. If it was twins then I would have counted my blessings but idk how we would have done 2!

@GinnyJ2012 my Dr called with the results it's a cyst she is not concerned and at my 11/12 week ultrasound they will measure again to make sure it did not get bigger. I'm glad it's nothing to be concerned about now fx it doesn't grow!
