16 weeks with complications...help!!

I am 16w 1d as of today. I've been spotting since 14w. I have been to my dr 5 times in this time frame. The only thing they checked was hb, urine, and done a pelvic exam. Sometimes the bleeding is light other times it's quite a bit and bright red. They can not give me a reason for the bleeding. Is there something else they should be checking? Has anyone else went through this with positive outcomes?

Have you had an ultrasound or anything to check the placement of your placenta or the possibility of a SCH (uterine blood clot)? Sensitive cervix? I have been told that some women do just bleed throughout without an apparent cause, but I know that's not very reassuring either. I have a good friend who had bleeding throughout with a full term healthy babe, she just had extra monitoring.

My last ultrasound was at 7w 1d and my next one isn't scheduled until 18w. The Dr's have just told me to wait it out and see. Basically that there's nothing they can do anyways.
  • Im reeeeeally surprised they haven't done an US. I wouldn't leave the office til I got one, if nothing else to lessen my anxiety.

Maybe it's just a small SCH or maybe your placenta rubbing your cervix.

And, not that you asked, but if you're not going to push for the US, take it easy and stay hydrated. I'd put myself on pelvic rest too. As far as "there's nothing they can do anyways" um, depending on the cause, they can put you on bed rest (worked for me at 13w), put in a cerclage...it all depends on if they find the cause.
  • I also think it is strange that they have not done an US.  I have spotting on two different occasions this pregnancy and both times I was asked to come in for an ultrasound and both times I was put on pelvic rest.  This latest spotting episode was a result of a low lying placenta (which they discovered at the US they arranged due to the spotting).  I would definitely question why they haven't sent you for an ultrasound and like Mailmans Baby said I'd put myself on pelvic rest (no intercourse and lifting no more than 15 pounds) until an ultrasound is done.
  • Im 16+4 and have had spotting for about 2 weeks. Everything looks good and baby is growing big. I was told my cervix is sensitve that even too much walking will do the trick. I have to take it easy and lay down as much as i can. my doc said i could just be one of those who spot throughout the pregnancy.
  • I had full on period bleeding for about a week, twice in the beginning of this pregnancy. No reason, just happened. I will echo what the others have said about US though. Because there was no apparent cause I was placed on bedrest for the first month, then pelvic rest for another week. Next time it happened they just put me on pelvic rest. So far I haven't had any more bleeding *fingers crossed*

    But yeah, demand an US!
  • My friend bled on an off through her entire second pregnancy and her son is a healthy two year old now. I agree on insisting on the ultrasound (I did at 6 weeks with spotting) but also try to stay positive and calm ❤️

  • I've bled off and on from week 5 - week 15. Each and every time I have gone to the doctor they have done an US to figure out why and make sure baby is okay. I am quite surprised they haven't checked. This last time I was actively bleeding when I went in the doctor thinks that it is actually in my vagina not my uterus/baby. I haven't bled in 13 days now. Good luck. Ask for an ultrasound next time or hit up the ER.
