Ultrasound showed some blood around baby!!!!

Just went to my first prenatal appointment I'm 7weeks & 5 days today, during the ultra sound I got to see the baby clearly and heard the heartbeat it was 132bpm, the tech said that heartbeat was great and that the baby was measuring well. Then I was sent into the waiting room and my doctor called my husband and I in and said that after looking at the ultrasound they noticed some blood around the baby! She said she would schedule to come back in a week 11/20 to do another ultra sound and see how the baby is, she said the baby may survive or I may miscarry :( do any of you ladies have a similar experience to this, I'm freaking out

Re: Ultrasound showed some blood around baby!!!!

  • I have a subchorionic hemorage (if that's the same as what you have) meaning there is blood or a blood clot in the sack with the baby. My OB said it was minimal and should be reabsorbed. I go back on the 17th to check on it. She wasn't concerned at all. Did your OB tell you whether it was a lot of blood or just a little? I've read if it's a lot, you have a higher chance of miscarrying but it's not 100%.

  • After looking online a subchorionic hemorage sounds like what I have but the doctor never mentioned that name or diagnosed me with anything so I'm not sure. My OB didn't mention that the blood may reabsorb but just said that they baby may be ok or may not, it's just crazy bc the size and growth and heartbeat of the baby is fine it's just this blood around it that's the issue. Let me know how your appointment goes, I made an appointment with my old obgyn for the 18th to see what she says
  • I had my first u/s yesterday and it too showed a subchorionic bleed. Doctor didn't seem to worried told me there was nothing I could do to prevent it. He said it was most likely caused by implantation bleeding. He scheduled another U/S for Dec 9th to check on it, said it should be gone by then. He didn't tell me exactly what it was either I emailed the office this morning to ask.
  • It's so crazy that neither one of your doctors mentioned anything about there being a chance of losing the baby right? Bc of the blood
  • SCH are common, most of them are eventually reabsorbed but some people do experience bleeding from it so they typically monitor you pretty close in the beginning.

  • Thank you Love4Labs, i just can't wrap my head around why my obgyn didn't stress the fact that this is common she's made me so nervous, I don't know whether to believe her or all the discussion boards I've read about other ladies with this problem who have turned out fine but I guess my obgyn is just being very precautious
  • I had this too, and I was terrified. I even had some spotting weeks 4-6, which turned to brown discharge until week 8. Now I'm 9w and it seems to have gone away. My bleeding resolved on its own.

My doctor told me to take it really easy (no exercise, no sex, no heavy objects, put my feet up when I can) and to drink a lot of water (no idea why). Thought I'd mention in case your doc didn't. Good vibes to you!
  • Thank you hokiejenn! My doctor didn't mention all those things except the part about drinking a lot of water so thanks a lot for mentioning that :)
  • My tech mentioned some blood lingering at my first US at 7wks and said I may experience bleeding or it may be absorbed back into my body. Sure enough this Wed at 9wks I had a heavy bleed of bright red blood that scared the crap out of me. US shows baby is measuring exactly 9wks and 180 heartrate. I was put on pelvic rest for a week and told to drink lots of water...dehydration can cause your uterus to contract. Mine wasn't diagnosed as an SCH, so maybe yours is something similar. My OB did say bleeding isn't uncommon in first tri. FX for you and bean!
