Brown discharge, mild cramping

Looking for advice..I'm 10 weeks 1 day and have been having consistent brown discharge for the past 5 days. Today I've had mild cramping. Called my OB Friday and left message. They called back however I was unable to answer. They told me to go to ER if bleeding. Two days later and I'm still experiencing the discharge only with mild cramping now..what to do? First time mom. I do not want to go to ER for no reason. I'm typically not someone to worry but have been pretty upset.

Re: Brown discharge, mild cramping

  • Can you call the after hours number for your OB? There has to be someone on call.

  • Already tried, just tells you to call ER or go to ER if emergency.
  • Just go to the ER, they'll give you an u/s and you will be able to see the baby and be put at ease. Unless it's super expensive, idk what your insurance is like
  • Went to ER did not do us but did do pelvic exam and blood work. Calling it threatened miscarriage right now. Go to OB tomorrow.
  • Started to have bleeding that's why we decided to go.
  • If it makes you feel better brown discharge is common i had it with my first pregnancy and now this one for about a 2 weeks . The mild cramping is also normal your uterus is stretching to make room for a baby. Drink plenty of water that heps with cramping. Im not a doctor just sharing what I experienced and what my health professionals told me. Just be positive and hopefully all is well.
  • I bled quite a bit around 9-10 weeks last time, both brown and red blood. Cramping as well. I was just put on pelvic rest (i.e., no sex or riding a bike) for a few weeks. My little girl is just fine. :) I hope everything is okay!
  • I'm going through this now for the second time this pregnancy. I bled for 11 days around week 6-7 and now I'm 9 weeks and bleeding again. Last time it was nothing and I'm hoping I get the same results tomorrow
  • Thoughts and prayers
  • I'm 9 weekso and same thing but went to Er again today and everything us still good they said it is probably the placenta is low in my uterus and that's why the on and off bleeding.
  • I actually was diagnosed with a subchorionic hemorrhage last week at 9 wks. If you have brown blood, it's old which is good.

I ended up waking up last week to moderate cramping with moderate bright red bleeding. Bright red means active bleeding. Called my ob when they opened. US showed baby wiggling around and the bleed. Per the doc, rest up, drink lots of water (to prevent dehydration/cramping of uterus which could lead to bleeding), refrain from activities causing overexertion, and no heavy lifting.

As soon as I started resting, bleeding slowed down significantly and started turning to brown spotting. Usually, the bleed clots up and is slowly reabsorbed by the body.

Will be sending thoughts and prayers out to you ladies. I hope you feel better soon.
  • I had terrible cramps and brown spotting, turns out it was from traveling too much (by car).
  • I just went through heavy, bright red bleeding at exactly 9wks this week. Went to OB and all is still well with baby. She told me I may experience brown blood/discharge and that's fairly common. They weren't able to find a cause for the bleeding, but said that's also fairly common. FX for you and your LO. Try to rest, that's what they suggested for me too!
