So, I'm a FTM with twin girls on the way. I had a routine measuring ultrasound yesterday and 26w4d and was immediately sent for observation because my cervix only measured 1.2 cm (it measured 3.1 cm at 20 weeks). After finding some minor contractions on their machines - that I couldn't even feel - they admitted me for at least 48 hours.
I'm on a magnesium drip and had one of the two steroid shots for baby lung development along with constant contraction observation. I'm still having contractions, but nothing I would label as out-of-the-ordinary braxton hicks. I barely even notice them! I'll be on the drip until tomorrow around 3pm at least before deciding what to do next. Based on the way they are aggressively treating me, I'm thinking they're leaning towards hospital bed rest.
I'm grateful to have such a great care team, but I'm having a hard time processing this since up until now, I've had a deliciously ideal twin pregnancy. Almost zero symptoms other than lots of exhaustion and a big belly. Babies are measuring well for their gestation (Baby A is a little smaller than they'd like if I were to go into labor this weekend) and I know logically that we're at a place that survival chances are good with minimal lifetime complications - especially if we can keep them cooking for a while. I think I'm having a hard time dealing with the idea of basically being an invalid and being that burden on my very supportive husband.
Thoughts and prayers would be so greatly appreciated! Hopefully we'll know the game plan by tomorrow afternoon.
Re: Looking at a Possible Lengthy Hospital Stay... **Update in Comments!**
If I can share my story, maybe it'll give you some positive motivation.
My cervix measured 3.0 at my 16 week scan and by 18 weeks I was down to a 1.7 & funneling. I was never admitted to the hospital because my contractions were never consistent so there was nothing to "stop" however I immediately began strict hospital bedrest, progesterone suppositories, weekly ultrasounds to check length & received 4 total doses of steroids. My cervix remained a 2.0 pretty much throughout the duration of my pregnancy until my water broke at 35w6d. My bedrest restrictions were lifted at 35w so I'm convinced that had I stayed, I could have kept them in to my scheduled c section date.
They were 5.10 & 5.13 and came out perfect! No NICU & they came home with us! I'll be hoping for an even better outcome for you given you're much further along than I was at the start of things. Stay strong momma!
