My poor kitty...:(

So we got a kitten about 6 months ago and I feel so terrible and guilty about the whole thing. The kitten was for DD she has always wanted a cat and I have always grown up with pets. Anyway, this little kitty was so crazy, hyper, cute...would even ride in a car inbetween DH and I. DD could also play with him and he would never even show a claw. Anyway, kitty had a dark side too...he pooped/peed out of his litter box numerous times before baby was born, scratched corners of walls, my new table and chairs, couches...he would even bat at the chandlers and try to take daring leaps to shelves, cupboards and Windows. Anyway ever since baby was born our little kitty was jealous (understandably) but we still played with him, gave him treats and attention. But he looked almost depressed...we spoke to a vet and got all the necessities to make him feel better (we even did anxiety meds before baby was born). Anyway a few nights ago I was in bed and DH was on diaper duty and I heard a thump...I figured DH dropped the wipes or something and DH thought I made a noise...I went to the baby room and asked what that was. Well long story short we found our kitty laying at the bottom of our landing (about a 9ft drop) his front paws were lifeless and the rest of him was tense. He was alive but obviously in pain. Like wth don't cats always land on their feet?!?! Anyway we took kitty to the 24 hr emergency vet and they think he caught somthing while falling that did some damage to his spine (likely the door knob or rail to the steps) we had to put him to sleep. I feel terrible, his last month was not fun for him, he was sad, I felt bad, he stressed me out because I thought he was going to hurt baby...but I did not want my kitty to die :(.

Help I feel so guilty!!!! I absolutely love animals!!!!

Note the ledge does not pose a threat to kids...

  • I am so sorry!! Its never easy losing a pet. We had to put our cat down right after LO was born. He was 22 years old and could not get into the litter box had no teeth and barely could walk. I couldnt handle mopping the floor 20 times a day Completely different situation, but i feel your pain . My heart is with you!!
  • I'm so sorry. It's hard to lose a member of the family even the furry members.
  • I'm so sorry to hear this I'm sending tons of love♡
DH and I rescued our first cat whom was an 8yo sphynx , he was rescued from an animal hoarder where he spent his life in a cage abused. When we brought him home he was king our our home and so clearly happy from the moment he walked in, we loved him. Only two weeks after his freedom he passed a blood clot, which paralyzed his hind legs and we had to bring him in at 3am to emergency vet, they had to put him down. It was nothing that could have been prevented, predicted, or controlled. I can relate to your story, though ours are different. Hang in there ♡♡♡
  • I'm so sorry for your loss, I can't even imagine dealing with that right now. Our 2 kitties have handled our new arrival really well, but I feel so guilty because I have no time to give them any attention.

  • Don't feel bad, it wasn't intentional! Our LOs come first and animals eventually adjust. Sorry he died but honestly it would have happened anyways and maybe he's in kitty heaven :)
