I had one, to check all was good inside the uterus. They suspected a slight t-shape uterus, and found just that, so they corrected it then. Others have had it for fibroids, polyps, or just to make sure all is looking good in there. I was sedated, so I have no recollection of anything.
Oh wow. They told me I will be awake. I can drive myself there and back. Is that bad? Should I be sedated? Does it check for endometriosis too? I've always wondered if I had that.
Hmm...depends what they're expecting, I guess? I'd ask them why they want you doing one. I guess in my case they were pretty certain it was turning into a surgery. They do insert a little camera up there through your cervix, so I can't imagine it being comfortable.
Unless you have endometriosis lesions inside your uterus or your tubes (most likely the tubes, I think the only effect in the uterus would be a thicker lining, but I didn't have that because of the other issue), no they wouldn't. For me, the my went in with the camera, saw what was wrong and fixed it. Then got out of there and did a transvaginal endoscopy (essentially poke a poke in the vagina near the cervix) and went to see the outside of my uterus. That's when they saw how bad the endo was and they got out of there and went into a laparoscopy (5 keyholes on my stomach), where they could remove the endo.
Could it be because they want to make sure your ectopic didn't damage your tubes or anything?
My doc told me to make sure there is no scar tissue. Ok that makes sense. They were pretty certain they were going to do more to you then just look. In my case they are just looking.
Yeah, they were fairly certain something was wrong, they just had no idea how bad it was (the endo). What was supposed to be a 15-40 min procedure lasted 2 1/2 hours. I won the 'most complex surgery of the day' award. Would have done without that award, but the final result is all that matters now.
Hope all is good with you and this cycle is the one!
It sure did ! I have a total of 9 scars on my stomach (I had another laparoscopy last january to remove my gallbladder, which in retrospect was likely no longer functioning becausenof the endo it was stuck in- described by the surgeon then as 'lots of inflammatory tissue'). So stretch marks are the last of my concerns
I hope this whole ordeal pays off for you too soon!
Thanks @Kidshrink yeah I'm hoping for no surgery and that everything comes out fine. I don't get it done for a couple of weeks still. Still waiting on my baseline blood results to see if I will be starting Letrazole.
I was awake for my hysteroscopy. I had a few polyps and he wanted to check my uterus. He had me take a pain pill and i think a nerve pill before the procedure so I had to have a driver. I actually watched him snip the polyps and shape up the top of my uterus on the screen he was looking at. I was very sore the day after. I tried to work the next day but ended up going home early.
@agriffin92013 I was told take advil an hour before I come but that's it. but I don't think he will be doing anything or removing anything. at least not yet.
I had one last week. Not sedated. To be honest my HSG hurt way more. It wasn't too bad. It was to look at my c section scar and see that everything is ok in there. When they are just looking they don't tend to sedate, when they are going in to fix they do. He found a small polyp and a little scarring and said that he didn't feel it caused my infertility but if I don't get pregnant soon with Femara he suggests I get another, this time sedated, to fix. So if they are just looking it's not too bad, just uncomfortable.

I had one done in April. I was sedated, I had "unusual tissue" in my uterus that my RE wanted to remove and biopsy. It turned out to be nothing, thankfully. I was sore for a day or 2, bled quite a bit the day of the procedure and then got my period 2 days later. It was heavier and more painful than usual, probably because of the procedure.
Thanks for sharing all of your experiences. I go in on Monday to check my follicles and for the hysterectopy. I guess if everything looks good I'll do the iui Wednesday.
