Im a terrible mother

Anyone else feel like a terrible mom lately. Im so sick I can barely get out of bed. I don't want to do anything...I just want to lay in bed and focus on not losing my lunch. I keep telling myself its okay, things will be better in several weeks but I can't help but feel guilty. My kids are basically running the house rite now while I sit here like a lump. How are you all coping?

Re: Im a terrible mother

  • Yes. I'm not coping. We watch TV.
DS 9/2/13 was a BFP from an IUI!
Triplets due 6/29/16 also from an IUI!

  • Not coping.  My kids are older (8 & 10), and they've just had to rally & grow up in the past month - doing the dishes, packing their own lunches....I've got no clue at all what's going on with homework.  It's survival mode.  This too shall pass.  Makes a newborn seem like a breeze!
  • Tv has been my best friend with my DS, you can only do so much:)

  • Thanks for being so honest ladies. Im using the tv as a babysitter lately...feeling so guilty about it.
I wish I had some help but we don't have any family near by so its really hard on the kids. Either of you have family to help? I wish I had someone to come and grab them for a couple hours so they can get out. I guess sitting in the backyard with them will have to do for today.
  • My daughter has coloured every available surface with her pencil crayons. She's basically feral at this point.

I know this is so not funny but I can't help but LOL at the way you said that! ;)

I have family but they don't know I'm pregnant and they all have more kids than I do, so I don't feel like I can ask for help :( probably being silly but that's just where I'm at right now! Just seems wrong to call one of my sisters who has 4-6 children and be like "sooo can you take my one kid because I'm just super tired right now? no reason..."
  • Ha ha yes I can see how that may seem a bit strange. ;)
  • Now that I'm finally at 10 weeks and feeling better I'm taking care of the kids/house again. Which is good because we're out of all clean clothes and our floors/kitchen/bathroom resembles an episode of hoarders. Dinner for a few weeks consisted of pb&j and chips...dh works 2nd shift so I gave up on making healthy dinners.
  • I have loads of family nearby, they know I'm pregnant, but the help I need (granted my kids are older) is hard to ask of people who are running their own families, jobs, etc.

Hey, could you come check my kids' math homework, cook dinner, do the dishes and then get them out the door in the morning so I can stay in bed until the last minute before I have to leave for work?  My DF has been pitching in with meals, but this will be his first child, so he's not great at kid routine stuff, and he tends to get home pretty late from work.

If I had wee ones I'd just throw TV & snacks at the problem for a few weeks.  Honestly.  And this is from someone who is normally insane about healthy meals & no screen time.
  • I have family but they work mostly full time. And I use them for Dr appts which I will have a lot of so I hesitate to ask just because.

  • I started crying tonight because I feel so lazy and forgetful but my boys are taking my laziness and hormones much better than I. This is my 4th pregnancy but all I feel like I can do is get out of bed to lay on the couch. My sons 9th birthday is tomorrow and I didn't even plan a party. I feel soo guilty.
  • Lots of TV here! I mentioned to a coworker how I feel guilty and she told me you've gotta do what you've gotta do!
  • I'm pregnant with number one but keep thinking "how would I deal with this and look after a child?!?". We intend on having 2! I feel for you all.
  • Totally given up!  We were going to get my ds sleeping in his own bed by now but we've put that on hold until I'm feeling better.  I just don't have the energy to stay up all night and then work all day.

I've given up on that one too. At this point I'm just hoping the new baby will be less psychotic about sleeping on his/her own so that I will continue to only have to sleep with one little one in my bed...
  • I have been laying on the couch all day for 2 weeks. I can tell you about every episode of law and order svu shown since then. My house is a disaster and my son has been eating fruit snacks and string cheese as his meals. Thank goodness for juice boxes. I simply do not give a damn what anyone thinks. This will be my last pregnancy ever and I am not going to stress. Don't feel bad. Hopefully we will all feel better in a couple weeks :)

  • Don't feel guilty like you said it's just a couple more weeks I hope! My 2 year old is a tv zombie from after Mother's Day out until my husband gets home I feel terrible about it. I feel like crap everyday from like 3 or 4 till bedtime reversed morning sickness! Hang in there We will feel better soon.

  • I'm not a super hardass on screen time, but I do give my husband a hard time ordinarily because I know he lets her watch more videos than I'd like. (He works from home, so he's with her more than I am.) Lately, though? If the 847th viewing of Monsters Inc. is what lets me lie down and not have to move, OK. So be it.

  • I wish my 12 month old would watch tv for more than 5 seconds before moving onto the next activity!! He's usually satisfied with me if I sit on his playmat and act semi interested in what he is doing :/ so exhausted.
  • Totally given up!  We were going to get my ds sleeping in his own bed by now but we've put that on hold until I'm feeling better.  I just don't have the energy to stay up all night and then work all day.

I am so glad I'm not the only one!  I keep thinking that if I wait long enough, I can just reason with him!  That'll work, right?!?!  ;)
  • Same boat. My DH is amazingly helpful, but he is traveling this weekend. We ate going to be watching loss of tv. This AM my DS watched me throw up and he kept laughing at me and saying "mommy spit...bleach!!"
  • I've been day dreaming of someone offering to take DD for a morning or something.

  • My 10 month old is all over the place and it's so hard to keep up sometimes! Thankfully my parents are just down the street, so they're here almost everyday to help out. But then I feel guilty passing her off to them to go take a bath, or lay down for a minute! I'm in permanent zombie mode.
  • Netflix is a godsend. I've been fighting something nasty sinus-wise the last 48 hours, so DD and I have just been lumps on the couch watching Mickey Mouse Christmas movies. Hopefully I'll get over this crud soon, and then hopefully when I hit 2nd tri in 2 weeks, I'll feel a little more like a human and a little less like an overcooked noodle.

You know, I thought I had everything figured out on how I would do things... Now I can't remember a single thing. We switch back and forth from Blaze and the Monster Machines to Mickey Mouse Choo Choo. My son just pooped in his diaper and I just caught a whiff.. I gag and dry heave everytime I change the diaper... So I may avoid him until my mother gets here soon. I'm thinking a shower and do my hair for once and she should be here.

I feel your pain. One of these times I'm actually going to vomit on my baby and it's going to be horrible.
  • I don't have children- but if you saw my house right now you would be appalled!

I haven't cooked or cleaned in a couple of weeks because of nausea and fatigue... It's awful!

Hang in there, your kids will forgive you! They may even love TV and cereal for dinner ;)

  • I can relate, don't feel too bad. This is my third (kids are 4 and 18 months) and on top of feeling sick and tired I can feel the tendencies of depression coming back that I felt right after my daughter was born. Needless to say I'm not at my finest and falling behind on a lot. My 18 month old is still sleeping with a paci, and my goal of teaching ds to read has totally gone on the back burner. Lots of books, stickers and play dough. They got canned soup for lunch twice this week, and cold cerial about half the time for breakfast. Trying not to beat myself up about it too badly.
No one knows I'm pregnant yet, and dh is working lots of overtime, so if I can keep the kids happy and healthy and get ds to school and back that's enough for now

  • I am sooooo there and this post makes me feel so much better.
  • Me!! This week has been rough. But I try. I feel best first thing in the morning. So I try to get going then, from about 7-10. Then at 10 or 11 I just lay around a bit. My 9 month old is a doll about it and just smiles at me and plays. But the nausea makes it hard to drink and I am still exclusively breastfeeding so... That sucks. Plus my diet is mostly carbs.

I actually find eating carbs about every two hours helps.

    We can do this ;)

I'm breastfeeding too and having trouble hydrating and dealing with the intensity of my appetite combined with the intensity of my aversions to everything but bagels and candy. Every morning when I wake up I feel hungover, which I assume is due to dehydration because I've been nursing through the night! I'm finding club soda with lemon or lime a little easier to get down than water...

  • Glad I posted about this! I don't feel nearly as guilty now. Just a few more weeks ladies! We got this!!! We are almost done!
  • I know it's easier said than done - but just put this time in perspective - it's not going to last long and you need to take care of yourself. Kids are probably loving the extra tv time. Try to let go of the guilt :-)
  • Yes, today I actually had energy for once, but had to use it to make things less gross.. My house is soooo bad right now! The kids are done playing together though...not even sure they miss me.
  • I was trying to finish a sewing project that I needed to ship and DS woke up before I was done. I no joke strapped him into his infant swing, turned on the music and let him swing away for 30 minutes (I had to go back in to restart the music!) Not sure of the weight limit but I might burn out the motor before this LO gets the chance to use it.

  • I don't have any other kids but at the rate this pregnancy is going I don't think I will! I'm so sick and tired! I can barely keep up with my lazy fat dog let alone a child! You are all super human and I admire you for what you can do!
