prometrium anyone??

I had my 3rd IUI yesterday and for the past two I have been given crinone gel to take afterwards until my pregnancy test.  We switched to the other dr in the same practice and he told me he really prefers prometrium over crinone..he thinks it is less messy.  So I am trying it this time.

It is so strange to put a capsule, (coated pill) up your lady parts.  I have been taking estrace vaginally before which I thought was so weird as it's a pill but that was a more standard, pill (not coated in anything)

ANyone, has anyone taken both prometrium and crinone and can tell me the differences?  OR if you just have taken prometrium, anything I should expect???

Thanks

Re: prometrium anyone??

  • I haven't taken Crinone so I can't provide insight on that one.

With Prometrium I experience extremely tender breast. Mine were for oral use only though and to induce AF. I'm not sure if that makes a difference. I agree that inserting a coated capsule into your vagina is a bit odd.

I'm interested in what others have to say.

I took prometrium orally but the only side effects I had was trouble sleeping.
  • I have only taken prometrium orally. It just makes me really tired after my PM dose. I'm actually switching to crinone this time.

  • I took prometrium vaginally (2 capsules twice/day). Won't lie: it's gross. Not sure how it could be less messy than Crinone, but I've never used it so can't compare. It made me a little irritated and dry down there, but it did the job it had to do (and contrary to what some people say, the increased progesterone could be measured in my bloodwork). Taking it vaginally is supposed to lead to less symptoms. I typically was exhausted the first day or two and then that was it.
  • @KidShrink was it a yellow capsule that you just shoved up there??
  • It was white/light beige, definitely not a bright yellow. But if yours are yellow, expect that to come back out...
  • I took the yellow prometrium vaginally for all of my previous cycles . It is really gross ! The first two times I ended up getting a minor yeast infection . The last 2 times I haven't gotten infections thank god !!! The side effects for me are not fun : I bloat , I'm moody , tender boobs. Ive sucked it up and continue to do it in hopes of a BFP and a pregnancy that lasts !!

  • I can't remember the color. It's either light yellow or white. I started it this morning. It's just so weird that it's a capsule that I feel like I should take orally. Not shove up there
  • I've done the prometrium vaginally as well (2x a day), I didn't have any negative side effects from it, but it was a dark brownish pill, so that was lovely on the way back out.  The only notable difference for me was when I did get AF, my cycle was significantly shortened the following month, although I was told with all the meds, that wasn't unusual.
  • I've taken both and preferred crinone. Good luck! I had more side effects w prometrium vaginally but think I was allergic to something in the coating.
