Circumcision

in October 2015 Moms
Tomorrow we have an apt to get LO circumcised ...still don't know weather we should go or not. I don't want him to go through pain if it's not necessary. I've read it helps with cleanliness & infections. How many of you moms got your sons circumcised ? Pros & cons . Any advice or lessons learned would be great. Thank you

    Please use the search function to find a few great threads on this subject. I find circumcision to be barbaric and cruel, but even if I didn't it is totally not medically called for. I could give you lots of great evidence, but it's been done... You just need to search for the posts.

    My oldest is and my newborn is not. I wish I didn't with my son. It's not necessary and as long as you teach good hygiene they'll be fine

    I don't mind answering. My son is not circumcised and care of it has been easy. You just wipe the outside and leave it be. If you're on the fence just remember it can always be done but can never be undone.

    You welcome. Sorry I am just way too exausted to track down articles to cite and make an impassioned argument against circumcision when I've done it a few times already. If after reading what has been written you still have questions I'd be happy to a answer them.

    I did not circumcise my son. It is not medically necessary to do so, and to be honest whether a child is circumcised or not we should all be teaching our sons proper hygiene. In my opinion, I would rather let my son make the choice himself since it is his body. Barring medical necessity, I feel there is no reason to put a baby through the pain of the procedure and recovery.

    Both of my boys aren't. I've assisted in some at workand once I seen how they do it I was standing there thinking "I'm so glad I didn't put my son thru this" it isn't medically necessary. Just clean what you see. What's what my ped told me. The skin will pull back on it's own

    Cleanliness should never be a reason to circumcise. An uncircumcised penis is no less clean than a circumcised one as long as you practice proper hygiene. Please do not make your decision based on this reason as it is utter rubbish.

    I would read everything you can find about circumcision before you make your choice. There is lots of info out there from reliable sources. We did our research and still couldn't decide! After my son was born the decision became easier... It just felt so so wrong to be doing to him. It's not something you should do unless you are completely sure and comfortable with it

    We didn't do it. I think many people who chose to do so choose it for the sake of tradition. Uncircumcised isn't unclean as long as you teach your son how to properly clean it... And it really isn't that hard.

    My husband got circumcised when he was old enough to remember the experience. He said he wished his parents has done it when he was a baby or not at all. Take that into consideration. If you decide to later it will be a lot more traumatizing.

    Had my little one done before we left the hospital. He slept through the whole thing didn't even phase him. Healed within 7 days only pain is putting Vaseline on every diaper change.

    My little boy is. My husband and I originally decided against it but then we started talking through all the possibilities like my husband and him looking different and that being hard on him growing up and then the already traumatizing locker situation when he's older and talking to my own mom whose first boy is uncircumcised but whose 2nd and 3rd are. It's a very personal decision you're making, we personally felt it would be easier for him emotionally. After his circumcision he was fussy for a couple hours then absolutely fine. It healed incredibly well and extremely fast. Hope this helps!

    We just did ours. We are Jewish and I wanted to uphold the tradition. It was hard to go through and I was thinking I'd rather not do it. Ultimately I'm glad I did because it's part of our identity as Jews but it was hard to watch!!!

    We had our son done. We openly discussed it but my husband really wanted wanted to get it done. Part tradition part to save from emotional issues like previous poster said. DH had a cousin who wasn't and he got made fun of so much he decided to have it done as a freshman and said it was so miserable. Though it's becoming more common to not have it done, it's still personal choice. Our experience went smooth and he didn't shed a tear.

    Neither of my boys are and neither of them have had issues with cleanliness. It is a personal choice but after doing extensive research and watching a video of the procedure I could never. The penis is made the way it is for a purpose.

    If it hurts a grownup it hurts a baby. My partner is uncut and I've been with men who aren't before and it's never been an issue. The trend nation wide is declining the procedure, so if you are deciding to on the off chance he'll be the odd man out (which baffles me) it might not be as uncommon by the time your little one is big.

    To the OP I'm glad you found an answer you're okaywith. My little guy had surgery at 3 weeks old and i could never imagine going through that willingly. He slept a bunch too and while the doctors don't like to admit it, it's just as painful for the babies which is why they sleep.

    We didn't. And my SO wanted it done but I just couldn't. He couldn't give me a good reason to cut a part of my sons body off. If he had a good reason I would have considered it but he admitted the only reason he wanted it was because he is circ'd. We talked about it for a long time and just never got the procedure done because we couldn't come up with any reason to do it. In recent studies here on the west coast it's actually more common not to be circ'd so I'm pretty sure he won't get teased in the locker room.
